MORE NEW ARRIVALS
A colt and a filly by leading sires out of high-class race mares headline a rash of arrivals at Lanwades through mid-April.

The colt is a bay by GALILEO and a first male produce after three fillies in as many years for MADAME CHIANG, ARCHIPENKO’s Group 1 Qipco British Champions Fillies and Mares Stakes winner. Her first foal is the KINGMAN filly ORIENTAL MYSTIQUE, winner and placed in two starts at two last year for David Simcock, and she has a two-year-old daughter of INVINCIBLE SPIRIT named RANI OF JHANSI with the same handler. Her yearling filly is by LOPE DE VEGA and she now visits another Prix de Jockey Club winner in Lanwades first season horse STUDY OF MAN.

LOPE DE VEGA is also the sire of the second foal produced by Group 2 Park Hill Stakes winner ALYSSA, a mare with the distinction of having a dam and a granddam who have both produced juvenile Group winners, a third dam in ALBORADA who was a World Champion, a fourth dam in ALOUETTE who was a Broodmare of the Year, and, as fifth dam ALRUCCABA. ALYSSA is another joining the star-studded first book for STUDY OF MAN.

Brazilian Group 2 winner NA BALADA has a first foal grey filly by leading US sire KITTEN’S JOY. A daughter of a half-sister to 1000 Guineas and Cheveley Park Stakes winner Champion two-year-old filly NATAGORA, she will now visit SEA THE MOON. Also foaling at Lanwades to a Kentucky cover was KARAMELA, an Irish-bred (by Airlie Stud) Argentinian Group 3 winner herself and a daughter of a half-sister to Irish 2000 Guineas winner BACHELOR DUKE. She has a STORMY ATLANTIC colt and will join the queue for STUDY OF MAN.

KITTEN’S JOY’s Lanwades-based Breeders’ Cup winning son BOBBY’S KITTEN is responsible for no fewer than five of the recent arrivals, of which only one is a colt. Mother and daughter KESARA and APPARATCHIKA both have fillies; the former, whose LEROIDESANIMAUX son ZAAKI won the Group 3 Diomed and Strensall Stakes in 2019, is another slotted for the book of STUDY OF MAN, while her dual-winning ARCHIPENKO daughter, already dam of a winner with her only runner in the form of 2019 juvenile scorer ARRIVISTE, a daughter of SEA THE MOON, will return to that sire.

Also with BOBBY’S KITTEN fillies are Timeform 101 rated multiple Stakes-placed SO IN LOVE (who now also visits STUDY OF MAN) and the successful producer MISS CAP FERRAT, dam of two Stakes winners and also of 2019 Listed Epsom Blue Riband Trial runner-up CAP FRANCAIS. The BOBBY’S KITTEN colt is a first foal for FRANCOPHILIA, a dual winning daughter of FRANKEL and Group 1 winner LADY JANE DIGBY; she too will now visit STUDY OF MAN.

There are a chesnut colt and a bay filly by SEA THE MOON. The filly is a first foal for KWANZA, a winning daughter of successful US sire EXCHANGE RATE out of Listed winner KISWAHILI from the family of MADAME CHIANG; KWANZA now visits BOBBY’S KITTEN. The colt is the second foal for AKRANTI, an unraced daughter of HERNANDO’s Group 3 Blue Wind Stakes-winning daughter AKDARENA; a further arrival was a third foal HAWKBILL filly out of AKRANTI’s SEA THE STARS half-sister AKSAYA.

Finally, MEMORY LANE has a bay colt by CITYSCAPE, a half-brother to ultra-consistent Irish sprint handicapper and Black Type placed VERHOYEN. ALRUCCABA FAMILY ARRIVALS
Successful SELKIRK runner and progenitor ALVARITA (herself daughter of dual Champion Stakes winner ALBORADA) and no less than three of her daughters are amongst seven members of the phenomenal ALRUCCABA tribe adding to the family numbers in recent weeks. A Listed Stakes winner herself and dam of eight winners from ten foals of racing age, including Group winner ALLA SPERANZA (by SIR PERCY) and Group-placed Listed winner ALTESSE (by HERNANDO), ALVARITA has a SEA THE MOON colt twelfth foal. Her eighth winner came as recently as last month in the shape of three-year-old Lingfield sprint scorer ALMQVIST. She will now visit Lanwades new boy STUDY OF MAN.

Both ALLA SPERANZA and ALTESSE were also amongst this group of seven foalers. The former, dam of 2019 Group 2 winning three-year-old SHINE SO BRIGHT, her first runner, has a bay filly three-quarter sister to that horse by MUHAARAR. In addition to her OASIS DREAM four-year-old son, she also has to race for her this year ALLA LUNA, her once-raced (and second placed at The Curragh) now three-year-old daughter by SEA THE MOON (in Ireland with Jim Bolger) and AMBOSELI, a two-year-old daughter of SEA THE STARS who is in France with Andre Fabre.

ALTESSE has in fact just produced a colt foal by SEA THE STARS, her third produce and first colt following fillies by GLENEAGLES (ALLUDE, two-year-old with Jim Bolger) and a yearling filly by IFFRAAJ. Also amongst the foalers was ALTESSE’s full-sister ALBORETTA, who has a FAST COMPANY filly, her fourth filly from as many foals in as many years. She has a BOBBY’S KITTEN two-year-old, ALLEGRANZA, in training with Mark Johnston, and a yearling by the same sire and returns to him again.

Also included in the book visiting BOBBY’S KITTEN in 2020, having just produced a filly foal by him, is ALTA MODA, a daughter of ALBORADA whose four winners include Stakes-placed GROOR and Group 2 Dante Stakes fourth GHURAIR. GROOR’s once-raced ARCHIPENKO three-year-old full-sister ALCHIMISTA is in training with David Simcock, as is still their winning four-year-old SEA THE MOON half-sister ALEMAGNA.

SIR PERCY’s Group-placed juvenile winning daughter ALAMODE has a SEA THE STARS colt, her third foal and a full-brother to two-year-old filly ALETOILE, who is with Mark Johnston; she also has yearling filly by POSTPONED. LATE FEBRUARY / EARLY MARCH FOALINGS
A GALILEO half-brother to two Group 1 winners is amongst recent arrivals at Lanwades.

The bay, out of the winning STORMY ATLANTIC mare HERE TO ETERNITY, is better-than-half-brother to ARCHIPENKO full-brothers TIME WARP and GLORIOUS FOREVER, both Group 1 winners in Hong Kong (the former having added a third Group 1 success to his record with a win in the Hong Kong Gold Cup in February this year), all three being out of a mare tracing to SPECIAL in tail-female and by a sire who contains that highly influential taproot mare in his pedigree. HERE TO ETERNITY has the OASIS DREAM two-year-old filly HEAT AND DUST (with Sir Mark Prescott) to represent her on this side of the world this year.

Another high-profile newcomer is the second colt born at Lanwades by ill-fated Horse of the Year ROARING LION, this one out of four-time winning and Timeform 104-rated SEYCHELLOISE, a PIVOTAL daughter of Group 3 winner and Group 2 Queen Mary runner-up STARLIT SANDS. SEYCHELLOISE’s first foal is the SEA THE STARS two-year-old colt of 2020 SEA THE SHELLS, who is in training with Mark Johnston, and her second a now yearling filly by BOBBY’S KITTEN. She now visits Lanwades’ new horse STUDY OF MAN.

Mother and daughter MARIA DI SCOZIA and MARIEE have both foaled produce by SIR PERCY in 2020, the former with a chesnut colt, her daughter with a bay filly.  MARIEE, whose second foal this is following a SEA THE MOON colt last year, is by ARCHIPENKO and is one of three winners out of MARIA DI SCOZIA, who is herself a SELKIRK granddaughter (out of a HERNANDO mare) of Italian Horse of the Year MARIA WALESKA.  This is also the family of Lanwades-bred Gr.1 winner LADY JANE DIGBY.

Another ARCHIPENKO mare with a SIR PERCY filly (her second after last year’s filly first foal) is KANDAHARI, a dual winning half-sister to 2019 dual Group 3 winner ZAAKI, rated 120 by Timeform. Her filly foal is of course very closely related to Lanwades-bred 6-time winner and dual Stakes winner PERSONA GRATA, by SIR PERCY out of her 3rd dam, KALDOUNYA. She now visits SEA THE MOON, as do two other recent foalers – MS GILLARD, a winning AUSSIE RULES great-granddaughter of MRS MOSS who has a 2020 first foal daughter by BOBBY’S KITTEN; and NIMIETY, whose 2020 produce, her fourth foal, is a colt by successful young French horse ANODIN. NIMIETY has ARCHIPENKO daughters NETIQUETTE (three-year-old with Mark Johnston) and NEBULOSA (two-year-old with Andrew Balding) to run for her this year.

Two fillies by BOBBY’S KITTEN are amongst the newcomers, one bay, one chesnut. The bay is out of CATADUPA, a SELKIRK full-sister to German Champion older mare and dual UK Group 3 winner CUBANITA who has a SEA THE MOON three-year-old son SEL SEA to run for her this year and also has on the ground a HIGHLAND REEL yearling filly; the chesnut is the second foal (after last year’s AUSTRALIA colt) of LA VIE EN ROSE, a winning daughter of Group 1 winner LADY JANE DIGBY, who like MARIA DI SCOZIA is a Lanwades-bred granddaughter of MARIA WALESKA.

Finally, boarder SHE’S GORGEOUS has a bay colt by SEA THE MOON. A dual winner by ACCLAMATION out of a half-sister to Dubai World Cup winner PRINCE BISHOP, SHE’S GORGEOUS has MUKHADRAM two-year-old filly, REINE DU BAL (with Jane Chapple-Hyam) to run for her this year and a yearling colt by SIR PERCY

ALBANOVA ARRIVALS
Three Stakes-performing daughters of - and a Stakes-winning half-sister to - German Horse of the Year ALBANOVA are amongst mares to have foaled at Lanwades recently.

ALMA MATER, the SADLER’S WELLS half-sister to ALBANOVA and a Listed winner in France, has produced a grey KENDARGENT half-brother to five winners, her first five foals; her sixth named foal, ALAGAPPA, a two-year-old filly by ARCHIPENKO, is in training with Sir Mark Prescott.

Also, with a grey colt is ALBANOVA’s three-time Parisian Listed winning daughter ALL AT SEA, by SEA THE STARS, whose fourth-foal son is from the sole crop by ill-fated Champion ROARING LION. ALL AT SEA’s first foal is the once-raced Sir Michael Stoute trained three-year-old INVINCIBLE SPIRIT filly A LA VOILE, while she too has an ARCHIPENKO two-year-old daughter (A LEGACY, in training with Ralph Beckett) and she also boasts a yearling colt son by DUBAWI.

ALBANOVA’s German Listed-winning HERNANDO daughter ALWILDA has an OASIS DREAM colt third foal. Her first, the FRANKEL filly ALPINISTA, was a winner and 4th in the Group 3 Prix d’Aumale in three juvenile starts last year, and she has a yearling filly by KENDARGENT.

ALBAMARA, the third of the siblings to foal, who did not register a black-type win, but did post a Listed second and two Listed thirds, has a grey filly by MASTERCRAFTSMAN.

All four - ALMA MATER, ALWILDA, ALBAMARA and ALL AT SEA - will now join the initial book for Lanwades new son of DEEP IMPACT, STUDY OF MAN who already has his first mares covered safely in foal.

BLACK-TYPE MARES IN FOAL TO STUDY OF MAN
First season sire and French Derby winner STUDY OF MAN, the only son of Japanese super-sire DEEP IMPACT at stud in England, has had seven of his first eight mares covered scanned in foal.

Amongst the mares in foal to the grandson of the legendary 10-time Group One winner MIESQUE are Lanwades’ own mares, Gr.1 winner LADY JANE DIGBY (Oasis Dream – Scandalette/Niniski), already dam of 5 winners with her first 5 foals, and ALMIRANTA (Galileo – Alvarita/Selkirk), dam of two Group winners, ALEA IACTA and ALYSSA, as well as the undefeated Listed winner ALOE VERA, with her first three produce.

STUDY OF MAN is proving adept at his new career and is being supported by many of Europe’s leading breeders, not least his own breeders, the Niarchos Family.

Lanwades also stands unbeaten Champion Two-Year-Old and Derby winner SIR PERCY (sire of 80 individual two-year-old winners to date), Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint winner BOBBY’S KITTEN (whose first crop are two-year-olds of 2020) and German Derby winner and Horse-of-the-Year SEA THE MOON, a leading young European sire.

26th February 2020
EARLY ARRIVALS
Three fillies by Lanwades’ exciting young horse SEA THE MOON are among the first batch of 2020 foal arrivals. First of the trio born was also the first foal for her dam ALBIZZIA, a winning ARCHIPENKO half-sister to SIR PERCY’s six-time winning daughter HOPE IS HIGH and a granddaughter of TBA Broodmare of the Year ALOUETTE, herself a daughter of ALRUCCABA.

CHINOISERIES, a winning ARCHIPENKO full-sister to Group 1 winner MADAME CHIANG has a second foal bay daughter to follow last year’s filly by MASTERCRAFTSMAN, while the third of the SEA THE MOON newcomers is a third foal, and first filly, out of John Pearce Racing Ltd-owned BEST FRIEND, an unraced full-sister to Gr.1 Coronation Stakes winner and Champion Irish three-year-old filly LUSH LASHES.

The first foal born at Lanwades in 2020 is also out of an unraced full-sister to a Champion, in this case a NEW APPROACH fourth foal colt for LUISA CALDERON, who is a NAYEF sister to Gr.1 Prix de l’Opera winner and German Champion three-year-old LADY MARIAN. LUISA CALDERON is yet to have a runner, but her sister has already produced a good horse in the form of Gr.2 Grand Prix de Deauville winner LOXLEY, to whom, since LOXLEY is also by NEW APPROACH, this new arrival is a full-brother in blood. The mares’ half-sister LEADERENE (by Selkirk) produced last year’s useful three-year-old winner LE DON DE VIE (by LEROIDESANIMAUX), who remains in training this year.

Two other colt arrivals are by a pair of stallions whose progeny have yet to hit the track in HIGHLAND REEL and SAXON WARRIOR out of young mares neither of whom has yet had a runner either. The HIGHLAND REEL is the third foal and first colt out of the winning ARCHIPENKO mare ANARCHISTE, a great-granddaughter of 1975 Irish Champion two-year-old WELSH GARDEN, ancestress of high-class winners as diverse as Haydock Sprint Cup winner CHEROKEE ROSE and St Leger winner MASTERY. The colt from the first crop of SAXON WARRIOR is also a first foal for KINAESTHESIA, a winning SEA THE STARS daughter of Stakes winner KINETICA from the same family, tracing through Oaks Trial winner KILINISKI to SPECIAL, as MADAME CHIANG and CHINOISERIES.

Two of the remaining three foal arrivals are fillies by Lanwades horses SIR PERCY and BOBBY’S KITTEN. The bay filly by the latter is half-sister, out of the LEAR FAN mare HEAT OF THE NIGHT, to five winners including HERE TO ETERNITY, dam of ARCHIPENKO’s Hong Kong Group 1 winning full-brothers TIME WARP (now a winner of 12 races, including 3 Group 1’s, for winnings of £3,798,271) and GLORIOUS FOREVER. The SIR PERCY filly is the fourth foal of her dam ARCHDUCHESS, a winning ARCHIPENKO granddaughter of Gr.1 Yorkshire Oaks and Gr.1 Prix Vermeille winner MY EMMA, and a full-sister to 2020 two-year-old filly PERIPETEIA.

Finally, GRAIN ONLY, already dam of five winners of which two are the HERNANDO full-brothers CARAVAN ROLLS ON (a Group winner in Australia) and Listed-placed nine-time winner GABRIAL’S STAR, and the other three are by Lanwades stallions WITH APPROVAL, SIR PERCY and AUSSIE RULES, has a bay filly by GOLDIKOVA’s French-based full-brother ANODIN. GRAIN ONLY has a two-year-old by BOBBY’S KITTEN to run for her this year, so SEA THE MOON, her mate for 2020, will be the sixth individual Lanwades stallion she has visited.

TIME WARP BACK TO HIS BEST
Lanwades-bred now seven-year-old TIME WARP bounced back to his best to win the valuable Gr.1 Hong Kong Gold Cup at Sha Tin yesterday. A race he had previously won two years ago when he made history setting a new record by breaking the 2 minute mark for the Sha Tin 2000 metres. TIME WARP dictated a strong pace from the start and never looked liked being passed and won by three quarters of a length from his stablemate EXULTANT who had gone off favourite having won this race the year before. TIME WARP was sold as a yearling when consigned by Staffordstown Stud to Jeremy Brummitt at the Tattersalls Ireland September Yearling Sale. He went on to win four races as a two-year-old which culminated in him winning the Listed Criterium de l’Quest at Craon in France. He then won the Listed Prix de Pontarme at Saint-Cloud over a mile on his debut at three for his then trainer Sir Mark Prescott. Since arriving in Hong Kong he has now won three Group 1’s and a Group 3 and prize money won is now over £3.7 million. He is a most talented son of ARCHIPENKO and is full brother to fellow Hong Kong Group 1 winner GLORIOUS FOREVER, out of the winning STORMY ATLANTIC mare HERE TO ETERNITY who has two-year-old filly HEAT AND DUST in training with Sir Mark Prescott to run for her this year.
