News for 2017 Lanwades successes

15th December 2017
 ARCHIPENKO  (2004 - 2017)
It is with great regret that we have to announce the death of ARCHIPENKO, Group 1 winner and sire of Group 1 winners on three continents, at the age of only 13 years. He had a brief illness due to a rare, rapid and aggressive lymphoma. This is a fatal but non-infectious condition that is, sadly, untreatable. Until shortly before his death ARCHIPENKO had been in good health and in fact successfully covered mares to Southern Hemisphere time at Lanwades.  ARCHIPENKO, as good-looking as he was well-bred, was a delightful individual to deal with and he is an enormous loss to Lanwades and the European Thoroughbred breeding industry in general.

NEW GROUP 1 WINNER FOR ARCHIPENKO
Lanwades-bred TIME WARP was an exciting winner of the Gr.1 Hong Kong Cup yesterday at Sha Tin.  He led from start to finish, kept on strongly to win by a comfortable 2 ¼ lengths.  TIME WARP, was sold as a yearling when consigned by Staffordstown Stud to Jeremy Brummitt at the Tattersalls Ireland September Yearling Sale. He went on to win four races as a two-year-old which culminated in him winning the Listed Criterium de l’Quest at Craon in France. He then won the Listed Prix de Pontarme at Saint-Cloud over a mile on his debut at three for his then trainer Sir Mark Prescott. He then went over to Hong Kong and had his first run for new trainer A S Cruz in January this year and after a few runs, his first win in Hong Kong came in June at Happy Valley where he went on to win again at the end of June.  TIME WARP wrapped up his first season with an impressive win in the Sha Tin Mile Trophy Handicap over a mile.  He opened up his second Hong Kong season with two Group 3 placings followed by a Group 2 second beaten a neck by WERTHER.  This latest win in the most valuable race on the card, Gr.1 Hong Kong Cup, was his most impressive to date beating triple Gr.1 winner WERTHER. He is a most talented son of ARCHIPENKO and seems to be improving all the time..  He has now earned over £2.1 million in prize money.  See his win..https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9N6zqn5tr-E

FINAL FOALS
Foaling is over at Lanwades for 2017, the season completed by 10 arrivals in late April and early May, no less than six of whom are sons (four of those) or daughters of successful Lanwades resident ARCHIPENKO.

Half-sisters NEZHENKA and NADESZHDA are amongst that half-dozen, the latter’s colt, a half-brother to four winners and a full-brother to 2016 three-year-old Irish winner ARCHER’S UP, bringing the curtain down on 2017 foalings. NEZHENKA’s filly is her fourth foal in as many years and is half-sister to NASTENKA, the mare’s AUSSIE RULES three-year-old filly first foal who became the first Lanwades-bred winner of 2017 when scoring at Wolverhampton on 6th January. NEZHENKA, whose Sir Mark Prescott-trained two-year-old TIMOSHENKO is also by ARCHIPENKO, returns to the same sire.

NEZHENKA and NADESZHDA are daughters of the Italian Stakes winner NINOTCHKA, who is a great-granddaughter of SPECIAL, and a third member of the SPECIAL clan is also amongst the ARCHIPENKO half-dozen, two-year-old Stakes winner and dual Group-placed KINETICA having produced a colt fourth foal. Her three-year-old first foal by CAPE CROSS, KINETIC CROSS, is in training in Germany while her two-year-old SEA THE STARS filly KINAESTHESIA is with Ralph Beckett. She now visits SEA THE MOON.

All three of the above foals feature line-breeding to SPECIAL, given that ARCHIPENKO is himself a grandson of the great mare. This has previously proven a successful formula in Lanwades-bred Stakes-winners MADAME CHIANG (Gr.1) and TIME WARP (Listed winner at 2 and 3 years).

The other three ARCHIPENKO arrivals are a half-sister to SIR PERCY’s 2016 Listed Gran Premio de Madrid winner MADRILENO out of ALIZADORA; a colt out of HERNANDO’s Group 3 Blue Wind Stakes winner AKDARENA; and a colt out of Listed winner HEAT OF THE NIGHT who is a three-parts brother to ARCHIPENKO’s dual French Listed winner TIME WARP. AKDARENA and ALIZADORA both visit SEA THE MOON while HEAT OF THE NIGHT is joining the impressive first book of Lanwades new sire BOBBY’S KITTEN.

SAMANDO
is another Group-winning daughter of HERNANDO, winner of the Group 2 Prix de Royallieu and Group 3 Prix Exbury and a relative newcomer to the Lanwades broodmare band, although having been sold "in utero” by us at the 1999 Tattersalls December Sales. The dam of four winners to date, she has a lovely yearling filly by ARCHIPENKO and her 2017 produce is a chesnut filly from the second crop of MUKHADRAM.

ALBANOVA’a multiple Listed-placed GALILEO daughter ALBAMARA, one of the last of the ALRUCCABA line to foal at Lanwades this year, has an OASIS DREAM third foal colt, a half-brother to a pair of SPEIGHTSTOWN colts, the elder of which brought 525,000 guineas at last year’s Tattersalls October Yearling Sale and, now named ELHAFEI, is in training with John Gosden.

The final pair amongst the later foalers are the boarding mares SALINIA and MISS KATMANDU. The former, a British Bloodstock Agency-owned half-sister to Prix du Jockey Club winner RELIABLE MAN and a granddaughter of triple Oaks winner FAIR SALINIA, has a chesnut colt by SHOWCASING. MISS KATMANDU, bred by the late John Pearce and half-sister to her breeder’s good dual Group-winning HERNANDO colt ASIAN HEIGHTS, has a bay colt by SIR PERCY and visits…. yes, ARCHIPENKO.

19th May 2017
SEA THE FOALS
Two foals by Champion racehorse and leading sire SEA THE STARS and no less than six foals by his Lanwades-based Champion son SEA THE MOON feature amongst the April arrivals at the stud.

The SEA THE STARS pair are fillies out of BITE OF THE CHERRY and GRAIN ONLY. The latter is half-sister to HERNANDO’s durable Group 3 winning son CARAVAN ROLLS ON and four other winners from the family of a couple of Group 1 winning fillies in PURE GRAIN and, more recently, EURO CHARLINE. The other filly is the third produce of a Stakes placed daughter of Irish Champion two-year-old filly BIANCA NERA and half-sister to the dam of Champion POSTPONED.

The two colts amongst the six SEA THE MOONS are both out of young mares. ALOHA, a winning WITH APPROVAL granddaughter of World Champion ALBORADA, will return to the stallion after producing a third foal bay colt to follow her ARCHIPENKO colt and filly first two produce. SELENOGRAPHY, an unraced SELKIRK daughter of Argentinian Group 1 winner SLEW THE MOON from the family of ZENYATTA and MIZZEN MAST, has a chesnut second foal after producing a filly last year by LEROIDESANIMAUX.

Three of the four SEA THE MOON fillies are also out of mares yet to have had a runner. SO IN LOVE, a winning SMART STRIKE daughter of French Listed winner SOFT MORNING who was Listed placed four times in Paris herself, has a second filly to follow last year’s first foal daughter by SEA THE STARS; APPARATCHIKA (half-sister to the promising three-year-old colt, recent Curragh winner NIGHT OF GLORY), a dual-winning ARCHIPENKO mare from the family of SELKIRK’s Italian Champion son ALTIERI, also has a second foal; and NEIGE D’ANTAN, a three-time winner by AUSSIE RULES out of Stakes winning NIJINSKY mare NINOTCHKA, a great-granddaughter of SPECIAL, has a third foal daughter whose first foal three-year-old ARCHIPENKO daughter NOSTALGIE was a winner recently. The fourth and final SEA THE MOON filly is a half-sister to five winners out of FROSTY WELCOME, a Stakes winning WITH APPROVAL granddaughter of a SECRETARIAT half-sister to ALLEZ FRANCE.

27th April 2017
LADY JANE DIGBY now 3 for 3
Lanwades homebred Group 1 winner LADY JANE DIGBY had 2 winners in 3 days when her three-year-old daughter LA VIE EN ROSE (by HENRYTHENAVIGATOR) won well at Lingfield on Monday, to be followed by her year-older half-brother GALAPIAT (by GALILEO) winning at Epsom on Wednesday to remain unbeaten in two starts at 4 this year for trainer Mark Johnston, who also trained the dam and all her first three produce to run – all winners, the first being PONIATOWSKI (by DUBAWI).

Mark Johnston also handles LADY JANE DIGBY’s now two-year-old filly, FRANCOPHILIA (by FRANKEL), unraced to date, who is the subject of positive reports. The mare also has a lovely filly yearling by the late LEROIDESANIMAUX and a filly foal by ARCHIPENKO.

LADY JANE DIGBY (by Oasis Dream) won no less than 7 races at 2, 4 and 5 years England and Germany, having not run at all at 3 years due to an injury. Her wins included the Gr.1 Grosser Dallmayr Preis in Munich (against colts), also the Gr.3 Jacobs Stutenpreis there as well as the Warwickshire Oaks and the Hoppings Stakes, both Listed. She is a ¾-sister to stalwart GATEMAN (by OWINGTON) who won 11 races and almost £500,000 incl two Gr 3’s and 4 Listed races.

Their dam, SCANDALETTE (Lanwades-bred and by our flagship sire, NINISKI) never ran but was one of fairly few mares to achieve breeding 10 individual winners including 3 Black Type horses. SCANDALETTE was herself a half-sister to European Champion Sprinter (later sire in Ireland and Japan), POLISH PATRIOT. Their dam, MARIA WALESKA, will be remembered as one of the best racemares ever in Italy: Champion three-year-old filly and Horse of the Year there, her wins included the Italian 1,000 Guineas, Oaks and Gran Premio d’Italia, in which she beat visiting English colts. MARIA WALESKA’s female descendants are well represented at Lanwades. We occasionally offer fillies and mares from it for sale, privately or at auction.

24th April 2017

APRIL FOALS
Two bay colts and two chesnut fillies by ARCHIPENKO made up the bulk of the early April foals. A FRANKEL filly born on 31st March concludes the March arrivals. The chesnut (by FRANKEL) is the third foal of the Listed-winning boarder MISS CAP ESTEL, a Timeform 104 rated four-time winning daughter of HERNANDO. MISS CAP ESTEL’s first produce is the two-year-old filly ISOLETTA, an OASIS DREAM filly in training with Ed Walker, while last year she had a colt by Derby winner AUSTRALIA. She will now remain at Lanwades to visit SEA THE MOON.

The two ARCHIPENKO colts are both out of Listed winners. The earlier arrival is the sixth foal of Saint-Cloud scorer ALMA MATER, whose first three foals are all multiple winners and who include Group 3 runner-up and Group 1 Prix Saint-Alary fourth ALUMNA, and whose fourth foal, a now two-year-old ANIMAL KINGDOM filly named ALTRA VITA, is in training with Sir Mark Prescott. German Listed winner and Italian Oaks third SOUVENANCE’s colt is half-brother to dual winner NICE ROSE and to the two-year-old HEIRSLOOKINGATYOU, a colt by MAXIOS with Michael Dods. SOUVENANCE will now visit BOBBYS KITTEN while ALMA MATER returns to ARCHIPENKO.

Multiple Group-placed winner CLAIOMH SOLAIS who was also 4th in the Irish 1,000 Guineas has an ARCHIPENKO half-sister to her first foal 2016 three-year-old winner CLEAR CUT (now in training in Hong Kong and has been re-named PROUD SKY) and two-year-old CLAIOMH GEAL in training with Jim Bolger. Three-time winner NIMIETY’s daughter by the same stallion is her second live foal after the now two-year-old German-trained RIP VAN WINKLE colt NAHAYAN.  NIMIETY returns to ARCHIPENKO.

The remaining two arrivals are also fillies. KESARA, a two-time winner by SADLER’S WELLS out of a half-sister to SELKIRK’s Italian Champion son ALTIERI, has a bay by MEDICEAN, a half-sister to three winners including the 2016 Stakes placed SELKIRK gelding KIRKS RYKER.

Japanese Stakes winner VITA ROSA, who appears in the third generation of KESARA’s pedigree, is sire of the final filly, an Italian-born daughter of the multiple winner ECHALLOD, a DUBAI DESTINATION mare from the family of leading sire KALAMOUN. ECHALLOD’s two-year-old and yearling are both also daughters of VITA ROSA, and this trio are full-sisters to ATLANTIC AVENUE, a dual winner last year and already a winner as a four-year-old in Italy in 2017.

7th April 2017
FURTHER FOALS
Just one filly amongst the latest bunch of arrivals, a bay by ARCHIPENKO out of French Stakes winner SOFT MORNING, one of two by the sire, the other being a bay colt out of the WITH APPROVAL mare MEDAILLE D’OR. SOFT MORNING’s filly herself a fourth generation homebred, is half-sister to the Stakes-placed pair SAVANNA LA MAR and SO IN LOVE; her dam now visits BOBBY’S KITTEN. Dual winner MEDAILLE D’OR’s colt is half-brother to the dam’s 2016 first foal three-year-old winner CALIFORNIA LAD; she now visits SIR PERCY.

ALGARADE and CATADUPA each have bay colts by SEA THE MOON. The former’s is half-brother to the mare’s first two foals multiple winners ALBA VERDE and ALINSTANTE, the latter a Timeform 100+ rated three-year-old last year and a daughter of ARCHIPENKO, who is also sire of ALGARADE’s high-class South African Group 2 winning half-brother KINGSTON MINES. This year’s colt was a second foal for CATADUPA, a full-sister by Lanwades sire SELKIRK to dual Group 3 winner CUBANITA, following last year’s filly by LEROIDESANIMAUX; she now visits ARCHIPENKO.

At Gainesway Farm in Kentucky BOHEMIAN DANCE has produced a colt by ELUSIVE QUALITY, her second produce after last year’s filly by DECLARATION OF WAR. A triple winning daughter of DANSILI and the multiple Champion and Group 1 winner ISLINGTON, BOHEMIAN DANCE will stay in Kentucky, visiting veteran leading sire LEMON DROP KID. The final two recent arrivals are to boarding mares ARAQELLA and MISS CAP FERRAT. The latter’s is an INVINCIBLE SPIRIT half-brother to Stakes winners ST JEAN CAP FERRAT and MISS CAP ESTEL. ARAQELLA’s son by GLENEAGLES is her first colt after fillies by DARK ANGEL (a 200,000 guineas yearling purchase by Joe Murphy at last year’s Tattersalls October Book 2 Sale) and IFFRAAJ; she now visits BOBBY’S KITTEN.

BOBBY'S KITTEN TO SHUTTLE TO AUSTRALIA
BOBBY'S KITTEN, a brilliant two-year-old and winner of the Breeders' Cup Turf Sprint is to shuttle to Twin Hills Stud in New South Wales from his owner Kirsten Rausing's Lanwades Stud in Newmarket, UK.  He will be the first son of KITTEN'S JOY, the perennial Champion American Turf Sire, to stand at stud in Australia.

"BOBBY'S KITTEN is an excellent prospect" said Olly Tait, the owner of Twin Hills Stud. "He has all the attributes you look for in a stallion. He was a top two-year-old, a Group 1 winning sprinter at three, has an outstanding pedigree and is a magnificent looking horse, with strength, scope and quality".

BOBBY'S KITTEN won six times, all on turf, amassing US $1,424,417 in prize money. As a two-year-old, BOBBY'S KITTEN broke his maiden at Saratoga before a facile victory in the Grade 3 Pilgrim Stakes at Belmont, cruising to a 6 1/2 length win. He rounded out his juvenile season with a placing in the Grade 1 Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf.

The highlight of his career came as a three-year-old, with a breathtaking victory in the Grade 1 Breeders' Cup Turf Sprint at Santa Anita. He showed a brilliant turn of foot coming from last to first to defeat America and Europe's elite turf sprinters. In second was race favourite NO NAY NEVER and in third was UNDRAFTED, who went on to beat BRAZEN BEAU in the Group 1 Diamond Jubilee at Royal Ascot.

BOBBY'S KITTEN's sire, KITTEN'S JOY, has been Champion Turf Sire in America five times. A prolific source of high class horses, KITTEN'S JOY is himself by EL PRADO, the sire of MEDAGLIA D'ORO and ARTIE SCHILLER. Through these two stallions, EL PRADO is emerging as a potent influence in Australia, providing an excellent outcross for DANEHILL line mares with the Golden Slipper winner VANCOUVER and the brilliant ASTERN being examples of the EL PRADO / DANEHILL cross.

The dam of BOBBY'S KITTEN, CELESTIAL WOODS, has to date produced 3 Stakes winners by KITTEN'S JOY. She comes from the outstanding family of Champions such as PARADISE CREEK, THEATRICAL and DAVID JUNIOR.

Kirsten Rausing, the owner of Lanwades Stud and BOBBY'S KITTEN said "Lanwades has been the home of leading European sires NINISKI, SELKIRK and HERNANDO as well as LEROIDESANIMAUX, sire of ANIMAL KINGDOM. At present we stand Derby winner SIR PERCY; SEA THE STARS' only son in the UK, German Derby winner SEA THE MOON and Leading First-Season Sire in Argentina and Group 1 sire in the UK, ARCHIPENKO. They were joined this year by BOBBY'S KITTEN, who has proved extremely popular with European breeders and also attracted mares from Kentucky.

We are delighted to instigate this co-operation with Twin Hills and hope that BOBBY'S KITTEN, with his top-class performance, pedigree and looks will prove a great asset to the Australian breeding industry".

Olly Tait concluded, "BOBBY'S KITTEN comes to us from Lanwades, one of Britain's most respected studs. Twin Hills has been the home to some terrific stallions such as SNIPPETS and RUBITON, and BOBBY'S KITTEN has all the credentials to follow in their footsteps. He is a beautiful horse, has a lovely pedigree and showed an explosive turn of foot".

BOBBY'S KITTEN will stand at a fee of $16,500 inc GST.

FIRST-CLASS FILLY FOALS
Two fillies out of Gr.1 winners, one by ARCHIPENKO, the other the first foal of ARCHIPENKO’s Gr.1 British Champions Fillies and Mares Stakes-winning daughter, headline the half-dozen late February and early March arrivals.

MADAME CHIANG’s first produce is a bay daughter of Champion miler KINGMAN. The filly traces to SPECIAL (dam of NUREYEV, granddam of SADLER’S WELLS, and fourth dam of MADAME CHIANG) to whom MADAME CHIANG is inbred, as ARCHIPENKO is also a grandson of SPECIAL.

ARCHIPENKO’s foal daughter is a bay out of LADY JANE DIGBY, winner of a German Gr.1 and two British Listed events and three-parts sister herself to the durable multiple Group winner GATEMAN. She is her dam’s sixth foal and fourth consecutive filly; her two male siblings are both winners and she has half-sisters LA VIE EN ROSE (by HENRYTHENAVIGATOR) and FRANCOPHILIA (by FRANKEL), both with Mark Johnston, in training and also a very good yearling filly by the late LEROIDESANIMAUX.

STARLIT SANDS, winner of the Gr.3 Prix d’Arenberg and runner-up in the Gr.2 Queen Mary, has a bay colt by GALILEO, a full-brother to now three-year-old filly SANIYAAT, a €1,050,000 yearling at Goffs in 2015, her dam’s third foal, unraced to date and in training in Newmarket with George Peckham. STARLIT SANDS’ first two foals are both winners, four-time scorer SEYCHELLOISE achieving a Timeform rating of 104; she also has a yearling colt by SEA THE STARS.

Grey colts by ARCHIPENKO have been born to two more ALRUCCABA family members. The “recipe” is known to work, having produced Black Type winners ALGONQUIN and ALGOMETER already. German Horse of the Year and triple Group 1 winner ALBANOVA has a ninth-foal, a brother to 2016 Group winner ALGOMETER and half-brother to Listed winning fillies ALWILDA and ALL AT SEA. She will return to ARCHIPENKO.

ALBACOCCA, a WITH APPROVAL granddaughter of ALRUCCABA out of her NINISKI daughter BALLYMAC GIRL, has a first colt after three straight fillies; her two-year-old second foal daughter by WORTHADD, ALCAVELLA, is in training in Newmarket with Charlie McBride. ALBACOCCA will now visit BOBBY’S KITTEN.

Three-time winner FRESA, a daughter of SELKIRK and the dual stakes-placed FLOR Y NATA from the family of European Champion two-year-old Lanwades-bred son of NINISKI, KALA DANCER, has a bay filly by SEA THE MOON. She now visits SIR PERCY, also sire of the final arrival amongst this batch of foals - a bay colt by SIR PERCY, a half-brother to three winners, including ARCHIPENKO’s Gr.2 Beresford Stakes runner-up son CLONARD STREET, out of MOI AUSSI, a dual winner tracing to WHERE YOU LEAD, granddam of RAINBOW QUEST, COMMANDER IN CHIEF and WARNING.

BOBBY'S KITTEN - first mares scanned in foal
New Lanwades sire, Gr.1 Breeders' Cup Sprint winner BOBBY'S KITTEN, has had NINE of his first mares covered scanned in foal. Amongst the newly pregnant mares are MULLEIN, the winner of 5 races, including the Listed Flying Fillies' Stakes at Pontefract, MISS ANABAA, Timeform 112-rated winner of the Gr.3 Ballyogan Stakes, MATRON OF
HONOUR, a half-sister to Gr.1 winner CASAMENTO; the winning DUBAWI mare BEAUTIFUL VIEW as well as Lanwades maiden mares SOUND OF THE SEA (Acclamation - Summer Night), a half-sister to 10 winners, 4 of them Black Type winners, and ALLE STELLE, a SEA THE STARS granddaughter of World Champion ALBORADA.

BOBBY'S
KITTEN is the first stallion son of multiple US Champion Turf sire KITTEN'S JOY to stand at stud in Europe. "We are delighted with the response to BOBBY'S KITTEN from mare owners all over Europe" said Lanwades owner Kirsten Rausing. "Mr and Mrs Kenneth Ramsey who bred and owned BOBBY'S KITTEN have sent over 10 mares (all due to foal to KITTEN'S JOY) from Kentucky to visit BOBBY'S KITTEN, Lanwades is supporting him with a significant number of our best mares, and we have nice mares visiting also from Ireland and France. We are very grateful to the breeders at home and abroad who support this exciting young horse" she concluded.

STAKES SUCCESS FOR LANWADES SIRES
Both of Lanwades sires with progeny of racing age had Stakes success at the weekend. The ultra-consistent WAKE FOREST, a son of SIR PERCY, already a Gr.1 winner last year, added further success to his racing record when winning the Gr.2 Mac Diarmida Stakes at Gulfstream Park. The German-bred seven-year-old entire who won the Gr.1 Man O’War Stakes at Belmont Park last year was returning from a break for this race where he raced in sixth, came wide off the bend to challenge in the straight to just get up by a head. Over in South Africa ARCHIPENKO sired a new Stakes winner when his British-conceived son ROYAL HONOUR won the Listed Aquanaut Handicap at Turffontein. He was prominent throughout the race, took up the lead halfway up the straight to win by just under a length.

ALRUCCABA FAMILY ARRIVALS
A half-dozen members of the ALRUCCABA family, headlined by a filly by the great FRANKEL are amongst the tail-end February arrivals. The daughter of FRANKEL is grey, and is the first foal of Stakes winner ALWILDA, a HERNANDO half-sister to 2016 Group winner ALGOMETER and dual French Listed winner ALL AT SEA out of German Horse of the Year ALBANOVA.  ALWILDA will now visit ARCHIPENKO.

Close relatives ALTA MODA, a SADLER’S WELLS daughter of World Champion ALBORADA, and ALUMNA, who is by MR GREELEY out of ALBORADA’s Stakes winning SADLER’S WELLS half-sister ALMA MATER, have each produced a bay filly by ARCHIPENKO. Group-placed (and Group 1 Prix Saint-Alary fourth) ALUMNA’s
is a second foal, half-brother to the SEA THE STARS colt which brought 110,000 guineas at last year’s Tattersalls December Foal Sale. ALTA MODA, who has three-year-old INVINCIBLE SPIRIT colt ENSIGN (with Aidan O’Brien) to represent her on the track this year, has already produced a good runner by ARCHIPENKO in the dual Stakes-placed GROOR, and she will return to the horse this year, as will ALUMNA.

After three colts in as many years, Gr.3 Kilternan Stakes winner ALLA SPERANZA (a granddaughter of ALBORADA) finally has a daughter, a bay or grey filly by SEA THE MOON. Her REDOUTE’S CHOICE first foal died unraced at two last year, but she has an INVINCIBLE SPIRIT two-year-old son with David Simcock and an OASIS DREAM yearling.

Half-sisters ALTRUISTE (by MONTJEU) and ALBARAKA (by SELKIRK), respectively unraced and Stakes-placed daughters of World Champion ALBORADA, both have colt foals; ALTRUISTE’s is an ARCHIPENKO half-brother to the mare’s first foal SIR PERCY two-year-old winner RABBIT PERCY, ALBARAKA’s is full-brother to his dam’s LEROIDESANIMAUX two-year-old second-foal daughter ALACRITAS (in training with David Simcock) and half-brother to OASIS CHARM, an as yet unraced three-year-old with Charlie Appleby.

SIR PERCY SUCCESS
Three-year-old colt MR SCARAMANGA by SIR PERCY was an exciting winner for his connections when taking the Gr.2d Al Biddah Mile at Doha yesterday. MR SCARAMANGA was a juvenile winner for his then trainer Richard Hannon and was also third in the Gr.2 Superlative Stakes as well as runner-up in the Listed Washington Stakes. He was purchased at the Tattersalls Horses in Training Sale last year for 90,000 gns by his current owner Robert Moss who owns him in partnership with Christopher Brennan. He is now in training with Simon Dow who was in full praise of the IRB for suggesting and arranging for him to run at Doha and in doing so picked up prize money of £115,000. SIR PERCY had a good weekend with LORD COOPER winning for the second time in six days at Wolverhampton and MYSTIKANA winning her second race.

FURTHER FOALS
Mother and daughter ALVARITA and ALMIRANTA, each with a foal by a recent Champion, are amongst the most recent half-dozen mares with new arrivals at Lanwades.

ALVARITA, whose daughter ALBORETTA and Group-winning INVINCIBLE SPIRIT granddaughter ALEA IACTA have both already foaled this year, has a bay or grey colt by KINGMAN. Her daughter ALMIRANTA, herself dam of ALEA IACTA, has produced a close relative to her classy daughter with a grey filly by MUHAARAR (like INVINCIBLE SPIRIT a descendant of GREEN DESERT). Both mares will remain at Lanwades, ALVARITA to visit new boy BOBBY'S KITTEN, her daughter to go to ARCHIPENKO.

A third member of the ALRUCCABA clan, ALL MY HEART, a Timeform 100 rated, 4-times winning granddaughter of ALOUETTE, has produced a third-foal colt by LEROIDESANIMAUX and she too will visit ARCHIPENKO, sire of her colt and filly first and second foals.

Also with a chesnut colt by LEROIDESANIMAUX and due to visit SEA THE MOON is Brazilian Group 3 winner THUNDER QUEEN whose dam was a half-sister to the great Champion RAVINELLA.

The remaining two of this batch of arrivals are both by ARCHIPENKO. Dual Group 3 winner CUBANITA, a daughter of SELKIRK out of a mare by HERNANDO, has a second foal son to follow last year's bay colt by KINGMAN. BIPARTISAN, a dual-winning half-sister to Group 3 Winter Derby winner ROBIN HOODS BAY, and granddaughter of Irish Champion two-year-old filly BIANCA NERA (granddam also of POSTPONED) has a first foal bay daughter. She too will now visit BOBBY'S KITTEN.

ARCHIPENKO EXHIBITION
Two colts and two fillies by ARCHIPENKO featured amongst the half dozen early February arrivals. The fillies are each first foals. One is a third-generation Lanwades-bred out of JOLIE BLONDE, a Timeform 95-rated three-time winning daughter of SIR PERCY out of four-time winner AFFAIRE D'AMOUR, a HERNANDO full-sister to multiple Stakes winner FOREIGN AFFAIRS.

The other is a bay daughter of HELVETIA, a winner in the green and white Kirsten Rausing colours as a three-year-old in 2015 after having been purchased from her breeder Juddmonte Farms. A BLAME half-sister to good French sprinter STERN OPINION, HELVETIA has as her fourth dam 1965 US champion two-year-old MOCCASIN, which means that her daughter has some fascinating line-breeding, as both ARCHIPENKO and BLAME trace to MOCCASIN's full-sister (NUREYEV's granddam, SADLER'S WELLS' third dam) THONG.

The two ARCHIPENKO colts, both bays, are a third foal for SUNSET SHORE, a winning OASIS DREAM half-sister to nine other winners including Group-or-Stakes winners SONGERIE, SOUVENANCE, SOFT MORNING and SOURIRE. SUNSET SHORE’s first foal is the highly regarded two-year-old colt WATHEER (by LEROIDESANIMAUX), trained by Marcus Tregoning for Sheikh Hamdan al Maktoum.

The other ARCHIPENKO colt is a full-brother out of EMINENCIA to winning filly ARCHDUCHESS and half-brother to 2016 Stakes placed MAKFI filly EDYA. Both mares will now visit new Lanwades horse BOBBY'S KITTEN.

The two remaining early February foals are also both Lanwades-sired, and also both first foals. Group 3 Prix Thomas Bryon winner ALEA IACTA, a great-granddaughter of World Champion ALBORADA, has a colt by LEROIDESANIMAUX and will now visit ARCHIPENKO.

Boarding mare SHE'S GORGEOUS, a dual-winning daughter of a half-sister to Dubai World Cup winner PRINCE BISHOP, owned by Mr and Mrs Johnny Johnstone, has a bay filly by SIR PERCY.

FIRST ARRIVALS

The first half dozen foals of 2017 at Lanwades, unusually enough by six different stallions, are on the ground.

Earliest arrivals were a pair of first foal bay fillies out of mares with well-established Lanwades connections. ANARCHISTE, a winning daughter of ARCHIPENKO (Champion First season sire in Argentina in 2016) out of the HERNANDO mare HERMANITA, has a MUKHADRAM daughter who has two helpings of the blood of 1975 Irish Champion two-year-old WELSH GARDEN, who in addition to being granddam of HERMANITA is also fifth dam of MUKHADRAM.

ALBORETTA, a winning HERNANDO half-sister to Group winner ALLA SPERANZA and 2016 Stakes winner ALTESSE out of the Stakes winning SELKIRK mare ALVARITA, herself a daughter of World Champion ALBORADA, has a filly by Irish National Stud resident WORTHADD, a son of DUBAWI who has his first runners this year.

Both mares now stay at Lanwades; ANARCHISTE to go to SEA THE MOON, ALBORETTA visiting new boy BOBBY'S KITTEN.

STELLAIRE, a winning ARCHIPENKO half-sister to four Stakes winners out of the prolific SUMMER NIGHT (dam of 10 winners), also has a first foal, a colt by LEROIDESANIMAUX; she too will visit SEA THE MOON.

SEA THE MOON is sire of the second colt arrival, a bay second foal out of ARCHDUCHESS, another winning daughter of ARCHIPENKO and a granddaughter of Yorkshire Oaks and Prix Vermeille winner MY EMMA.  ARCHDUCHESS visits SIR PERCY.

Two further bay fillies make up the half dozen - ALL AT SEA, a three-time Listed winner in France and a daughter of German Horse of the Year ALBANOVA, has an INVINCIBLE SPIRIT daughter.    MEMORY LANE, a dual winning daughter of WITH APPROVAL, has a PICCOLO full-sister to her 2015 colt who is in training with Michael Grassick in Ireland, and half-sister to the mare's first foal ARCHIPENKO 2015 two-year-old winner HENSHAW.

Far right: Colt foal by LEROIDESANIMAUX out of ARCHIPENKO’s winning daughter STELLAIRE, from famous Lanwades “S” family.

Right: SEA THE MOON colt out of Lanwades-bred winning ARCHIPENKO mare ARCHDUCHESS, granddaughter of dual Gr.1 winner MY EMMA.
