ST SIMON CONSIGNED TOP FILLY FOAL AT TATTERSALLS DECEMBER FOAL SALE
Kirsten Rausing’s St Simon Stud consigned the top filly foal at this year’s Tattersalls December Foal Sale.  The beautifully bred filly by OASIS DREAM out of ALBANOVA was sold at 450,000gns.  She was definitely one of the highlights on paper being out of ALBANOVA, a triple Gr.1 winner in Germany herself own sister to dual Champion Stakes winner ALBORADA out of Broodmare of the Year ALOUETTE  a daughter of the fabulous ALRUCCABA.   There was plenty of interest in her from Tom Goff, Gary Norton (representing Sir Robert Ogden), Philip Mitchell of Juddmonte and John McCormack.  It was Kentucky-based David Ingordo, acting for Australian businessman Paul Fudge whose bloodstock interests go under the name of Waratah Thoroughbreds, who secured the filly and in doing so he said “She’s a princess, let’s hope she becomes a queen, fillies like her don’t come onto the market very often, she is a gorgeous filly exactly what you want for a long-term broodmare prospect.  She came from a great farm.”

LANWADES-BRED CUBANITA TAKES LISTED EVENT AT DONCASTER
The final day of the British 2012 Turf season saw Lanwades-bred three-year-old filly CUBANITA gain her first black-type win when taking the Listed Gillies Fillies’ Stakes at Doncaster by half a length.  CUBANITA, a three-year-old daughter of the now retired Lanwades resident SELKIRK, has run only six times.  She started off finishing second on her debut to subsequent Gr.2 Dante winner BONFIRE and got off the mark on her second start at Nottingham over eight furlongs.  She then finished third first time out at three in the Listed Cheshire Oaks before disappointing in the Italian Oaks.  She was next seen out in September when she finished second in a competitive handicap at Goodwood before winning this race at Doncaster.  CUBANITA is the first foal for Lanwades-bred three-year-old winner CARIBANA by HERNANDO, she is currently in foal to ARCHIPENKO, has a foal by the same sire and a yearling full sister to CUBANITA.  SELKIRK has now sired 91 individual Group/stakes winners.

AUSSIE RULES 2YO TAKES LISTED PRIZE IN ITALY
Two-year-old filly GRAND TREASURE by Lanwades resident sire AUSSIE RULES recorded her first stakes victory when taking the Listed Criterium Femminile at Capannelle yesterday.  This was a well deserved first Listed win as she had previously been the runner-up in both the Listed Premio Eupili at San Siro on 9th September and the Listed Premio Ubaldo Pandolfi at Capannelle.  In both Listed races where she was second she was only beaten by a short head and a short neck and this occasion she managed a 3 ½ length victory.  GRAND TREASURE is owned by Dream Horse for which it is their first stakes winner and her trainer, Gianni Colella, announced that she could be a filly for the Italian 1,000 Guineas next year.  GRAND TREASURE was bred by Gestut Schlenderhan and purchased at the Tattersalls Ireland September Sale by Bozzi Bloodstock.  She is one of 11 individual two-year-old winners for AUSSIE RULES this year.

Two-year-old son of SIR PERCY, WAKE FOREST, was an impressive winner of the €200,000 Ferdinand Leisten-Rennen at Baden-Baden on Friday, a BBAG Sales race which is the richest two-year-old event of the German season.  He was bred by Gestut Fahrhof and is owned in partnership with Klaus Allofs.  His trainer, Andreas Wohler, confirmed that he will be entered for the 2013 Gr.1 German Derby.  WAKE FOREST remains unbeaten and is one of eight individual two-year-old winners for his sire SIR PERCY this year.

WORLDWIDE WINNERS FOR SIR PERCY
SIR PERCY sired three winners on three continents on Sunday.  Three-year-old PERCY JACKSON won a HK$950,000 race in Hong Kong over a mile, his first victory over there since being exported and a first win in Hong Kong for his sire.  Incidentally, PERCY JACKSON was SIR PERCY’s first ever runner and winner when scoring on his debut at Bath and he was also stakes-placed in Germany at two.
Two-year-old colt THAT’S WHERE IT IS became SIR PERCY’s first winner in Australasia when scoring at Waimate in New Zealand over 800m. This colt is from the first southern hemisphere-bred crop of his sire, bred when he shuttled to Rich Hill Stud in New Zealand.
Also, on Sunday FARANGIS beats the hot favourite to get off the mark in Germany when scoring at Munich to become SIR PERCY’s 32nd individual winner from his first crop of only 50 foals, this boasts a very impressive 64% strike rate.

STAFFORDSTOWN SALES TOPPER
Staffordstown recorded a memorable day when they consigned lot 455 a colt by HERNANDO to become the sales topper at this year’s one day Goffs Sportsman‘s Sale.  The colt is out of OVAL OFFICE who recently enjoyed a notable pedigree update when this colt’s two-year-old half brother GLASS OFFICE won his third race of the year, the Gr.3 Sirenia Stakes at Kempton.  The buyer was agent Stephen Hillen who went to €75,000 to secure the colt and was also responsible for buying GLASS OFFICE at the same sale last year.  Lanwades purchased OVAL OFFICE at the 2010 at the December Sales as part of the Bloomsbury Stud dispersal sale.

LANWADES-BRED GHURAIR WINS VALUABLE TATTERSALLS MILLIONS 2YO TROPHY
Lanwades-bred GHURAIR put up a game performance to win the most valuable two-year-old race in Europe this season, the £500,000 Tattersalls Millions 2yo Trophy at Newmarket which is also the richest race to be run at that course.  GHURAIR was consigned by Staffordstown at theTattersalls October Yearling Sale Book 1 last year and was purchased by Shadwell Estate Company for 180,000gns.  GHURAIR won his maiden at Newmarket and then went onto finish a close up fifth (only beaten a length) in the Gr.2 Vintage Stakes at Goodwood.  Trained in Newmarket by John Gosden who commented “that they may well put him away until next year’s 2,000 Guineas”.  GHURAIR is by ELUSIVE QUALITY out of Lanwades-bred ALTA MODA who is an unraced daughter of SADLER’S WELLS and World Champion Lanwades-bred ALBORADA.  ALTA MODA has 2012 colt foal by ARCHIPENKO and is in foal to SEA THE STARS.

NAHRAIN CAPTURES HER SECOND GR.1 VICTORY
SELKIRK’s four year old daughter NAHRAIN captured her second Group 1 victory when gamely taking the Grade 1 Flower Bowl Invitational Stakes at Belmont Park on Saturday evening. This victory comes almost to the day that she recorded her first Group 1 win in the Prix de l’Opera at Longchamp when she narrowly defeated another SELKIRK filly ANNOUNCE. Trained in Newmarket by Roger Varian NAHRAIN has now won five of her nine starts which include these two wins at the highest level. She was also a very close second in last year’s Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare on Turf and this win has gained her automatic entry into the same race this year and connections seem keen to have another go. NAHRAIN is one of 15 individual Group 1 winners for her sire SELKIRK who has also been represented this year by CITYSCAPE, winner of the Group 1 Dubai Duty Free as well STARSCOPE who was runner-up in both the 1,000 Guineas and Coronation Stakes and Group 2 winners AIKEN and FORTE DEI MARMI.

GROUP WIN FOR LANWADES HOMEBRED FILLY BY SIR PERCY
Lanwades homebred filly ALLA SPERANZA put up a very game performance to take the Gr.3 KPMG Enterprise Stakes at Leopardstown at the weekend over a trip and on ground that she had not raced on previously.  The three-year-old daughter of Lanwades resident sire SIR PERCY took the lead over a furlong out and kept on gamely beating the colts to take this Group 3 contest run over 10 furlongs.  ALLA SPERANZA has run seven times, won two and been placed twice at Listed level as well as finishing a good sixth in the Gr.1 1,000 Guineas.  ALLA SPERANZA is a half sister to a winner and is out of Listed Petite Etoile winner ALVARITA who is a full sister to Listed placed winner ALBARAKA and a half sister to Gr.2 placed winner ALBION.  They are out of dual Gr.1 Champion Stakes winner ALBORADA who is a full sister to ALBANOVA, winner of three Group 1 races and they are out of TBA Broodmare of the Year ALOUETTE.  SIR PERCY was also the sire of new stakes-placed two-year-old when MIRSAALE finished third in the Listed Ascendant Stakes at Haydock on the same day.  SIR PERCY is now the Leading European 2nd crop sire by percentage winners to runners and he boasts a 56% strike rate with winners to foals with his first crop – 28 individual winners from 50 foals.

OTHER WEEKEND NEWS
Following on from ALLA SPERANZA’s win connections enjoyed more success when the one-raced maiden SCINTILLULA finished second in the Gr.1 Moyglare Stud Stakes at the Curragh.  Trained like ALLA SPERANZA by Jim Bolger, SCINTILLULA was bred by her trainer and is now owned in partnership by Lanwades and Mrs J S Bolger.  She is a GALILEO full sister to the fillies CUIS GHAIRE and GILE NA GREINE who were both placed in the 2009 and 2010 1,000 Guineas respectively and she looks to be a most exciting prospect for next year.
Also at the weekend, THISTLE BIRD, by Lanwades sire SELKIRK, registered her third Listed victory this time in the Superior Mile at Haydock.  The four-year-old filly has won the Listed Valiant Stakes and the Midsummer Stakes this year before narrowly being denied victory in the Gr.2 Celebration Mile at Goodwood and looks to stay in training again for next year.  SELKIRK also had a second and third in the Gr.2 Blandford Stakes at the Curragh with CAPONATA and NAHRAIN.

DOUBLE ON THE CARD FOR ALADO
ALADO, standing in South Africa, sired two winners on the card at Flamingo Park on 3rd September, both had won before and in fact are multiple winners.  First up was the now five-year-old mare ED’S ANGEL who was winning for the sixth time and has also been placed on nine occasions.  She was bred by Paul Timms and is owned by Mrs Stephanie Miller and The Estate Late Mr Sean Miller and battled well to win this race over 1000m (5f).
Next up was the three-year-old filly SPACE GIRL recording her third victory this time in a race over 1200m (6f) and the winning margin was no less than 7½ lengths.  This was a third win from only four starts and there could be plenty more to come from the filly who was bred by Barbara Sanne Oldlands Stud and is owned and trained by Cliffie Miller and his partner Miss Freddie.
ALADO stands at Arc En Ciel and in addition to these two he also has NORTHERN CONQUEST (winner of 4 races and is Graded Stakes placed) and HALF MOON HOTEL (winner at 2 and Listed placed) who are due out on the track again shortly.

BANK HOLIDAY WEEKEND ROUND-UP
The August Bank Holiday came with a valuable handicap win for Lanwades-bred CARAVAN ROLLS ON, three winners for SIR PERCY including a Friday double together with a Listed second, a third in a Group 2 for AUSSIE RULES and a second in a Group 2 for SELKIRK.
Firstly, Lanwades-bred CARAVAN ROLLS ON who had been off the track for 330 days when he lined up for the Racing UK Handicap at Newmarket stayed on gamely to win this valuable race worth over £25,000 to the winner.  Trained in Newmarket by Peter Chapple-Hyam CARAVAN ROLLS ON, a now four-year-old colt by HERNANDO, was winning his third race in a row and fifth in total having not been out on the racecourse until aged three.  His trainer reports that he may be see out next in the Mallard Handicap at Doncaster.
SIR PERCY was responsible for a Friday double when three-year-olds FLEETING IMAGE and GOLD SHOW both won their races within an hour of each other.  GOLD SHOW was first winning a mile maiden at Ffos Las for owner Jaber Abdullah and breeder Mr and Mrs Pakenham to become SIR PERCY’s 27th individual first crop winner from 50 foals.  Next was FLEETING IMAGE who made all to win her second race of her career a twelve furlong handicap at Newmarket for owner/breeder P T Tellwright and trainer Alan Bailey.  BOMAR, son of SIR PERCY, already winner of the Swedish Derby tried to pick up the Listed Norwegian Derby as well but had to settle for second after the race was run in very heavy conditions but he did manage to pick up another £32,000 in prize money.  Two-year-old colt NILE KNIGHT became his sire’s fifth two-year-old winner of the year when winning a seven furlong maiden at Epsom on Bank Holiday Monday.
The two Group placings for Lanwades sires were THISTLE BIRD by SELKIRK who finished a very close second in the Gr.2 Celebration Mile at Goodwood and BOOMERANG BOB by AUSSIE RULES who finished  3rd in the Gr.2 Goldene Peitsche at Baden-Baden.

Lanwades sire SIR PERCY now boasts a 50% strike rate winners to foals from his very first crop (now three-year-olds) – 25 winners from 50 foals – after SOUND HEARTS wins well at Brighton.  It was a decent fillies’ handicap that SOUND HEARTS won which was run in terrible visibility due to sea fret, she stayed on well to put six lengths between her and the second and the same distance again back to the third.  Trained by Roger Varian, SOUND HEARTS was sold as a foal at the Fasig-Tipton Sale in 2009 for $85,000 and her dam, CRYSTAL SEAS, is a half sister to Japanese Derby winner DEEP SKY.

6th August 2012
TWO MORE NEW WINNERS FOR SIR PERCY
Hot on the heels of THE BARONET winning on 2nd August, SIR PERCY sired another two three-year-old winners at the weekend to take his tally to 24 individual winners from his first crop of only 50 foals born in 2009 which makes it 48% winners to foals.  First up was three-year-old gelding SCARLET PRINCE who won the 12 furlong maiden at Thirsk going clear to win by four lengths for his owner Mrs Nicola McGreavy and trainer Tony Coyle.  Next was SCARLET BELLE a three-year-old filly bred by Mr and Mrs Pakenham, who of course raced her sire to win five races including two Group 1’s.  Trained by Marcus Tregoning and now owned by The FOPS, SCARLET BELLE won a competitive fillies’ handicap at Newbury on her first attempt at ten furlongs and there could be more to come from her.

3rd August 2012
NICE WINNER FOR SIR PERCY
THE BARONET, a three-year-old gelding by SIR PERCY, won a good maiden at Nottingham yesterday over eight and a half furlongs staying on strongly to win by just under 2 lengths.  Trained by Sir Mark Prescott, THE BARONET was unraced as a two-year-old and this was his third start after having his first run only last month, he certainly looks to be a nice type.  THE BARONET becomes SIR PERCY’s 22nd individual winner from his very first crop of only 50 foals.

IMPRESSIVE NEWMARKET MAIDEN WINNER BRED BY LANWADES STUD
GHURAIR, bred by Lanwades Stud, is probably the most impressive 7 furlong maiden winner seen out so far this season. He powered his way home in the colours of Hamdan Al Maktoum on Newmarket's July course on 13th July.
Presented by Staffordstown at Tattersalls October Book 1 Sale last Autumn, he made 180,000gns to a bid from the Shadwell Estates. GHURAIR is the second foal of ALTA MODA (Sadler's Wells), an unraced daughter of the stud's brilliant ALBORADA (Alzao), winner of the Champion Stakes (twice), the Nassau Stakes and the Pretty Polly Stakes (Curragh), who is an own-sister to ALBANOVA (another Gr.1 winning Champion racemare). This is also the family of AUSSIE RULES, ALLEGRETTO, YESTERDAY and QUARTER MOON as well as 2012 winners THOMAS CHIPPENDALE and MICHELANGELO.
ALTA MODA this year has a bay colt foal by ARCHIPENKO and is safely in foal to SEA THE STARS.

ANOTHER NEW LISTED WINNER FOR SELKIRK
Hot on the heels of CAPONATA winning her first race at stakes level last week another filly by SELKIRK, THISTLE BIRD, gained her first stakes victory on Saturday when taking the Listed Midsummer Stakes at Windsor. This was THISTLE BIRD’s first run of the year after last being seen in October last year. The now four-year-old won two races last year; a maiden at Nottingham and a handicap at Windsor over the same distance of a mile as on Saturday. THISTLE BIRD is a homebred filly of the Rothschild family and is trained by Roger Charlton.

GOOD WEEKEND FOR SIR PERCY
Another of Lanwades’ sires SIR PERCY had a good weekend registering a good debutant two-year-old winner in AZRUR, a big prize for BOMAR and a stakes-placed second for HYDER. Firstly, up at Doncaster first time out two-year-old AZRUR looks to be a useful prospect for his trainer Michael Bell when winning the 7f maiden in breezy conditions. Bred by Kildaragh Stud he was purchased by Tony Nerses at the Tattersalls October Yearling Sales Book Two for 110,000 gns. Incidentally, this colt’s dam TIGER SPICE was sold at the Tattersalls July Sales by Lanwades carrying this colt. Next is BOMAR, a three-year-old colt by SIR PERCY, who registered his fourth win of his career when winning at Jagersro. He has now won over £42,000 in prize money and will now be aimed at the valuable Swedish Derby on 12th August. Finally a Listed second place for HYDER (a two-year-old colt by SIR PERCY) in the Premio Giuseppe de Montel at San Siro over 1500m.

28th June 2012
IMPRESSIVE NEW STAKES WINNER FOR SELKIRK
SELKIRK is the sire of impressive three-year-old filly CAPONATA who made it two wins from two starts when taking the Listed Naas Oaks Trial yesterday evening at Naas.  She looks to be another high class filly for her owner/breeder HH Prince Khalid Abdulla’s Judmonte Farms.   CAPONATA was first seen out at the beginning of May when she won a maiden at Gowran Park on her debut and yesterday stepped into stakes company in style, travelling strongly throughout to win this Oaks Trial by two and three quarter lengths.  Trained by Dermot Weld it was certainly an exciting performance by CAPONATA and it will be interesting to see if she lines up next in the Irish Oaks.

19th June 2012
ALADO’S SPACE GIRL WINS AGAIN
ALADO’S two-year-old daughter SPACE GIRL won again yesterday at Flamingo Park, Kimberley in a conditions race including colts over 1200m and remains unbeaten.  She won this race well by 4 lengths after having won on her debut by 3 lengths on 4th June.  SPACE GIRL looks to be a smart filly, she is by ALADO who stands at Arc En Ciel, and is trained and part owned by Cliffie Miller at Kimberley.

18th June 2012

AIKEN, a four year old son of SELKIRK, won the Gr.2 Grand Prix De Chantilly on French Derby day yesterday for owner/breeder George Strawbridge and trainer John Gosden. He has now won six in a row and this was a big step up from the Listed race he won at Ascot last time out. He certainly seems to be progressing and may be seen out next at Royal Ascot.

COQUET BOOKS HER PLACE IN THE OAKS LINE UP
COQUET, a three-year-old daughter from SIR PERCY’s first crop, won her third consecutive race yesterday, the Listed Height of Fashion Stakes at Goodwood and has booked her place in the Epsom Oaks line up in a week’s time.  She settled nicely in fourth place, made her challenge and held on gamely to win this race over ten furlongs which is considered to be the last Oaks Trial and in the past has been won by LOVE DIVINE and SNOW FAIRY who have both gone on to Classic glory.  COQUET has now won three of her fours starts which include two Listed races for her owner the Hon Mary Morrison and Partners and trainer Hughie Morrison. If all things go to plan SIR PERCY looks to have a representative in both the Oaks with COQUET and the Derby with CAVALEIROCAVALEIRO bids to give Hayley Turner her first ride in the race and she will become only the second woman jockey to do so in this prestigious race.

FAME AND GLORY WINS LISTED VINTAGE CROP STAKES ON HIS ANNUAL DEBUT
Lanwades-bred FAME AND GLORY put in a gutsy performance to win the Listed Vintage Crop Stakes at Navan yesterday for the second year running.  This was win number fourteen for the now six-year-old which includes five Group 1 victories and has won over £2.3 million in prize money.  After winning the Gr.1 Ascot Gold Cup last year he established himself as the leading stayer around and he looks set to defend his crown in the race at Royal Ascot next month.

FINAL FOALS
Foaling is over at Lanwades for the year, eight arrivals completing the 2012 group.
Seven of them are 'very permanent residents' in as much as they haven't left Lanwades for a while and are not going to this year either, their 2012 foals and their proposed 2012 coverings all being by Lanwades sires. The exception is Gr.3 Prix d'Arenberg winner and Queen Mary Stakes runner-up STARLIT SANDS, who has a second foal a PIVOTAL filly. STARLIT SANDS is the best of eight winners out of SHIMMERING SEA, a Group-placed half-sister to Gr.1 King George winner PETOSKI. This mare will not be covered in 2012.
Three of the remaining seven foals are SIR PERCY colts, one bay, one chesnut, one grey. FANDANGERINA, a great-granddaughter of Irish 1000 Guineas winner GAILY has a chesnut, her first colt after fillies by WITH APPROVAL (FANTASIOSA, in training with Rae Guest) and ARCHIPENKO, whom she revisits. HEAT OF THE NIGHT has a bay fifth foal. Her first two foals are winners and she has a two-year-old HERNANDO son with Sir Henry Cecil and a yearling colt by ARCHIPENKO. She visits AUSSIE RULES. The third SIR PERCY is a grey out of WITH APPROVAL's stakes winning daughter FROSTY WELCOME. Her first three foals are all winners, her fourth was placed in his only start to date, at two last year, she has a two-year-old daughter, ICY REPLY, by HERNANDO, with Sir Mark Prescott, and a yearling daughter by ARCHIPENKO. She too visits AUSSIE RULES.
AFFAIRE D'AMOUR is also due to visit AUSSIE RULES. She is one of three mares amongst this last batch who have ARCHIPENKO foals, hers the only filly. A full-sister to multiple Listed winner FOREIGN AFFAIRS and half-sister to 2011 Listed winner and multiple Group placed MOTRICE, AFFAIRE D’AMOUR has bred two winners and also has a yearling SIR PERCY filly still to represent her. ZOOMING, from the family of LAST TYCOON, and STERLING SOUND, a daughter of European Champion Filly LADY IN SILVER, both have ARCHIPENKO colts. Both mares now visit SIR PERCY.
The remaining foal of the batch is a bay/grey filly by HERNANDO out of ALVARITA, her sixth foal and fourth filly. A Listed-winning daughter of World Champion ALBORADA, ALVARITA, dam of four-year-old ALBERT BRIDGE (also by HERNANDO), a good winner for Ralph Beckett, has a two-year-old colt named ALCAEUS also by HERNANDO with Sir Mark Prescott and a yearling filly full-sibling to this year's foal. She now visits SIR PERCY, sire of ALLA SPERANZA, her three-year-old daughter who was an excellent sixth in the Gr.1 1,000 Guineas at Newmarket.

IMPRESSIVE DEBUT WIN FOR SON OF SIR PERCY
SIR JOHN HAWKWOOD, a three-year-old son of SIR PERCY, made an impressive winning debut over ten furlongs in a maiden at Windsor yesterday.   He settled at the rear, make good progress to lead and pull clear from the rest of the pack to win by five lengths with a further nine lengths back to the third.  Bred and owned by Ballymacoll Stud and trained by Sir Michael Stoute, SIR JOHN HAWKWOOD is a half brother to two Group 3 winners as well as four other winners and he definitely looks one to follow.

A NEW STAKES WINNER BY SELKIRK
AIKEN, a four-year-old son of SELKIRK, took his tally to five wins from six starts when impressively winning the Listed John Doyle Buckhounds Stakes at Ascot on Saturday by ten lengths.  AIKEN was unraced as a two-year-old, unplaced on his debut at three last June, but unbeaten since, having won a maiden later that month and three handicaps.  Owned and bred by George Strawbridge and trained by John Gosden he looks to be a highly progressive colt and it will be interesting to see his next appearance.

WEEKEND ROUND-UP
The weekend round-up for Lanwades - over at Saint-Cloud in one of the Derby trials, Lanwades homebred ALBION finished second in the Gr.2 Greffulhe Stakes by the smallest of margins to the unbeaten KESAMPOUR.  It was a great run by ALBION who is by WITH APPROVAL out of dual Gr.1 Champion Stakes winner ALBORADA and is trained in France by Andre Fabre.  The winner is an Aga Khan homebred out of the winning HERNANDO mare KASATANA.
Back in Newmarket in the 1000 Guineas SELKIRK’s daughter STARSCOPE ran a cracking race to finish second managing to split the Aidan O’Brien pair HOMECOMING QUEEN and MAYBE.  STARSCOPE is a lightly raced Cheveley Park homebred trained by John Gosden.  Interestingly the winner HOMECOMING QUEEN did not win a race until her eighth attempt in a Fairyhouse Maiden, she then finished second in the Gr.3 C L Weld Park Stakes before making all to win a Listed – The Lanwades and Staffordstown Stud Listed for two-year-old fillies at The Curragh, sponsored by Lanwades.
SELKIRK also had an impressive maiden winner at Gowran Park in CAPONATA, a Juddmonte homebred filly having her first run was much too good for her rivals winning by five and a half lengths. Trained by D K Weld she may be seen out next in an Oaks Trial at Naas.

DANCE COMPANY BY AUSSIE RULES WINS AT LINGFIELD
Lanwades new recruit AUSSIE RULES had a nice three-year-old winner yesterday in the well regarded filly DANCE COMPANY.  She was having her third start yesterday in the seven furlong maiden at Lingfield which she won in good style by over three lengths.  She had two runs at two, both in maidens at Newbury over six furlongs in which she did show some ability.  Her trainer, William Knight, is hopeful that she will progress into a black-type filly later in the season.  DANCE COMPANY is the eleventh individual three-year-old winner for AUSSIE RULES already this year and she looks to be a nice prospect.

HERNANDO IN THE NEWS
Lanwades sire HERNANDO was in the news at the weekend siring black type winners as a sire and a broodmare sire.  Firstly his ultra consistent son ALIANTHUS added another Listed victory to his growing list of successes which now adds up to eight wins in Group races and two in Listed events.  This latest Listed win came in the Ernst Meile at Cologne which he won by an impressive four and a half lengths. On the same card, SLOWFOOT, another son of HERNANDO won the Preis der Ford-Werke.  Over in Italy the Gr.3 Premio Regina Elena was won by CHERRY COLLECT who is out of the Listed winning mare HOLY MOON by HERNANDO. This race is also known as the Italian 1000 Guineas and many winners of this race have gone on to win the Italian Oaks.

25th April 2012
A DOUBLE FOR SIR PERCY
Lanwades sire SIR PERCY had two runners - two winners today, one a three-year-old and the other a two-year-old. The three-year-old FREE HOUSE was having his first run at Jagersro in a maiden over 1600m (8f) after having four runs at two in England when trained by Brian Meehan. Bred by Kirtlington Stud he was sold as a yearling at the Tattersalls October Yearling Sales for 80,000 gns and went through the ring again at the Tattersalls Horses in Training Sale. This was his first start as a three-year-old and won in convincing style by eight lengths. The two-year-old MAD JAZZ made virtually all to win over 5 furlongs at Catterick on her third attempt. She was bred by Usk Valley Stud and is now owned by Paul Inman along with her trainer Tony Coyle.

FEAST OF FILLIES
Eight foals arrived over a ten day period here at Lanwades, and seven of them are fillies. The sole colt is a son of HERNANDO and ALBA STELLA, whose first three foals are the multiple winners ALEATRICIS, ALICANTE and ALL MY HEART. Her fourth foal is the twice-raced GALILEO colt ALL THAT RULES, she has a yearling full-brother to this year's colt and returns to HERNANDO.
LA FELICITA has a bay NAYEF full-sister to German Champion three-year-old filly and Gr.1 Prix de l'Opera winner LADY MARIAN.   LA FELICITA is also the dam of German Group 3 winner LUCIDOR. LA FELICITA’s grandam LA DORADA was champion two-year-old filly herself in Germany and is ancestress of other German Champions in LOMITAS, LIRUNG, LAGUNAS, LA COLORADA and LAVIRCO. LA FELICITA has a MONSUN two-year old colt in training in Ireland with Patrick Prendergast named LONGSHADOW and a yearling filly by SELKIRK.
A second HERNANDO foal of the week was a MISS KATMANDU chesnut filly. The mare, Mr John Pearce's RAINBOW QUEST half-sister to Group winners ST EXPEDIT and ASIAN HEIGHTS has three-year-old and two-year-old full-brothers to this filly. The three-year-old named KASHGAR ran a very nice race first time out at Yarmouth earlier in the month finishing third and still holds a Derby entry. MISS KATMANDU stays put at Lanwades to visit AUSSIE RULES, who will also be the 2012 mate for I DO, who produced a chesnut filly by ARCHIPENKO. She has the HERNANDO three-year-old SPANISH WEDDING in training with Marco Botti to represent her this year plus a two-year-old colt by WITH APPROVAL and a yearling filly by SIR PERCY.
ALAKANANDA has a bay filly by ARCHIPENKO, her seventh foal. The first five are all winners, foremost amongst them Derby runner-up DRAGON DANCER, now a stallion in France. Her sixth foal is the MEDICEAN three-year-old filly SATOPANTH, unraced to date (but with some Gr.1 entries...) in training in France with Pascal Bary.
The remaining three foalers all stay at Lanwades to visit ARCHPENKO. ETERNELLE is returning after foaling a bay filly by that horse. She is a half-sister to three winners and has siblings PEARL FROST (three-year-old colt by VERGLAS) and EASY LIFE (two-year-old filly by SIR PERCY) to run for their dam this year. NADESZHDA has a chesnut filly by MAKFI, half-sister to her two winners which include last year's useful juvenile NIMIETY. She also has a two-year-old colt by WITH APPROVAL named COLOUR MY WORLD and a yearling filly already named as well in NOVAYA GAZETA, a member of ARCHIPENKO's first crop. Finally Group 1 placed stakes winner SOUVENANCE, who had a bay foal daughter by SELKIRK last year, has produced another daughter by our wonderful old boy, this time a chesnut. SOUVENANCE's first foal, NICE ROSE, was a good winner at Newcastle on only her second start ten days ago for Mark Johnston and her second, SORCELLERIE, is a two-year-old SIR PERCY filly in training with David Elsworth.

GROUP THREE SUCCESS FOR SON OF HERNANDO
HARRIS TWEED added his name to the list of 20 individual Group winners for his sire HERNANDO when powering clear to win the Gr.3 Dubai Duty Free Finest Surprise Stakes (registered as the John Porter Stakes) by five lengths at the weekend.  HARRIS TWEED, now five, had won two Listed races back in 2010, the Listed Stand Cup at Chester and the Noel Murless Stakes at Newmarket, and this was his first win at Group level after having been placed five times in Group company in the last two years. It was a good training performance by his trainer William Haggas after being off the track for over 230 days who reported that his next target could be the Gr.2 Yorkshire Cup next month and he is now qualified to run in the Melbourne Cup in November.  Incidentally, NINISKI, the grandsire of HARRIS TWEED, won this same race some 32 years ago.

BOOMERANG BOB GUINEAS BOUND
BOOMERANG BOB, son of Lanwades new boy AUSSIE RULES, has earned himself a run in this year’s 2000 Guineas at either Newmarket or Longchamp after finishing second to CASPER NETSCHER in the Gr.3 Greenham Stakes at Newbury on Saturday.  BOOMERANG BOB had four runs as a two year old, winning his maiden first time out at Kempton and then finishing second in his next three runs including in the Gr.2 Norfolk Stakes at Ascot and the Gr.3 Prix du Bois at Chantilly.

ALBORADA'S SON WINS IN FRANCE
ALBION the three-year-old son of Lanwades-bred World Champion ALBORADA won the Prix du Pre Catelan at Longchamp today over a mile and a quarter with a strong run to lead late on. ALBION is trained in France by Andre Fabre for Lanwades Stud and was having his fourth run, first as a three-year-old, after three encouraging runs at two where he never finished out of the first four. ALBION is by WITH APPROVAL who stood at Lanwades before he died in 2010 and is the third winner for his dam following on from the Listed Prix Petite Etoile winner ALVARITA and Listed-placed winnner ALBARAKA.

ANOTHER GROUP VICTORY FOR SON OF HERNANDO
Germany’s top miler ALIANTHUS returned aged seven with a win in the Gr.3 Frujahrs Meile at Dusseldorf yesterday.  The ultra consistent son of HERNANDO made all the running to capture his eighth race at Group level by three quarters of a length.  He has now won two Gr.2 races including last year’s Gr.2 Grafenberger Meilen Trophy and four Gr.3 races and is one of 19 Group/Graded winners for his sire HERNANDO which include six whom have triumphed at Group 1 level.

15th April 2012
NICE ROSE WINS AT NEWCASTLE
Fourth generation Lanwades-bred NICE ROSE easily won the Deloitte Maiden Fillies’ Stakes at Newcastle yesterday for her owner Ahmed Jaber and trainer Mark Johnston.  The three-year-old daughter of TEOFILO led from start to finish winning by a margin of four and a half lengths which looks to be most promising on her only her second start to date.  NICE ROSE is the first foal out of Gr.1 placed and Listed winner SOUVENANCE  who is by HERNANDO and is full sister to Gr.3 winner SONGERIE,  half sister to Listed winner SOURIRE (by DOMEDRIVER) and also to Gr.3-placed Listed winner SOFT MORNING.  All of these mares form part of the Lanwades broodmare band as well as their dam SUMMER NIGHT.  SOUVENANCE has a two-year-old filly by SIR PERCY named SORCELLERIE who is in training with David Elsworth, a yearling filly and a filly foal both by SELKIRK.

HALF MOON HOTEL EARNS BLACK-TYPE
HALF MOON HOTEL a two year old colt in training in South Africa earned some valuable black-type when finishing second in the Listed Somerset Stakes at Kenilworth on only his second start on Monday.  He is by ALADO, the unraced DANZIG stallion son of dual Champion Stakes winner and World Champion three-year-old filly, ALBORADA.  HALF MOON HOTEL is trained by Vaughan Marshall for owner-breeder Kirsten Rausing; the duo also have three-year-old NORTHERN CONQUEST, another son of ALADO, who has won 4 races this year. ALADO stands at Arc-En-Ciel Stud in the Cape Province, South Africa.

MISS AIX A WINNER FOR MR PEARCE
MISS AIX a four year old filly by SELKIRK out of HERNANDO mare MISS PROVENCE won the 11f Handicap at Warwick today for her owner/breeder Mr J L C Pearce. This was the second victory of her career after winning her maiden in June of last year at Newcastle. She has been pretty consistent in her ten runs to date and I am sure the aim will be by her trainer, Michael Bell, to get some valuable black type in the future. She did have one run in a Listed a the back end of last year. Mr Pearce has boarded his mares at Lanwades since 1984 and has bred many good winners here including Gr.1 winner ARCADIAN HEIGHTS and Gr.3 winners ASIAN HEIGHTS and ST EXPEDIT.

SELKIRK WINNER ON DEBUT
HH Aga Khan's three-year-old colt SHEMALZAN by SELKIRK was a winner on his debut at La Teste de Buch over 2200 metres today. Although he met with traffic problems in the straight he just managed to get his nose in front on the line to beat a field of 15. I am sure his trainer Jean-Claude Rouget will now look to step him up in class. HH Aga Khan has been a long supporter of Lanwades sire SELKIRK which has so far resulted in two Group 1 winning fillies DARYAKANA and KASTORIA.

FOALING REPORTS
Among a slew of recent foals, three are from the ALRUCCABA family. ALLELUIA, ALRUCCABA's Doncaster Cup winning CAERLEON daughter, produced a bay colt by first crop sire RIP VAN WINKLE at Airlie Stud in Ireland. Her ninth foal, the bay is half-brother to four winners including Group 1 scorer ALLEGRETTO. Last year ALLELUIA produced a colt by World Champion SEA THE STARS and she now visits that horse's sire CAPE CROSS.
ALBANOVA, three time Group 1 winner and German Horse of the Year 2004, has produced her sixth foal, and fifth filly, a bay by OASIS DREAM. Already dam of two winners, ALBANOVA has two daughters to run for her this year in training with Sir Mark Prescott - ALBAMARA (by GALILEO) a two-year-old winner last year, and ALWILDA, a grey two-year-old of 2012, by HERNANDO. She also has a yearling daughter, ALL AT SEA, by SEA THE STARS and will now visit ARCHIPENKO. ALBANOVA's Listed-winning half-sister ALMA MATER, who has a first foal two-year-old daughter, ALUMNA, by MR GREELEY, in training with Andre Fabre and a yearling colt by BIRDSTONE, now also has a third foal bay colt by BLAME. She stays in Kentucky and revisits the 2010 Breeders' Cup Classic winner.
French Listed winner SOFT MORNING has had her third filly in as many foals. The bay by HERNANDO follows two conceived in Kentucky - SAVANNA LA MAR, a now two-year-old daughter of CURLIN in training with Sir Mark Prescott and a bay by SMART STRIKE. Now that she's back the Lanwades homebred is staying put - to the extent that she will return to HERNANDO, sire of her two stakes-winning half-sisters SONGERIE (Gr.3 winner and Gr.1 placed) and SOUVENANCE (Listed winner and multiple Group placed). Also revisiting our veteran classic sire is GRAIN ONLY, whose first two foals, CARAVAN ROLLS ON and GABRIAL’S STAR both by HERNANDO, are winners and whose third foal two-year-old daughter by HERNANDO, GRANULE, is in training with Peter Chapple-Hyam. This year GRAIN ONLY foaled a bay filly by SIR PERCY
The British Bloodstock Agency's dual-winning stakes placed CAPE CROSS mare FLORA TREVELYAN has a bay filly first foal by GALILEO. The mare is a half-sister to nine other winners including stakes winners LEPORELLO, POPPY CAREW and CALYPSO GRANT.
Three Lanwades mares have each produced a colt by ARCHIPENKO; MOI AUSSI and FLOR Y NATA bays, IN THE PINK a third grey from four foals. MOI AUSSI, whose first live foal is a two-year-old filly by SIR PERCY and who has a yearling filly by WITH APPROVAL, now leaves Lanwades for the first time since her training days (she was an 86 rated two-time juvenile winner) to visit MOUNT NELSON. Stakes placed FLOR Y NATA, whose first two foals FRESA (a SELKIRK two-year-old winner last year) and HELICONIA (by HERNANDO) are both in training with Sir Mark Prescott, has a second colt to follow last year's by HERNANDO. She now visits last year's Derby winner POUR MOI. IN THE PINK, a daughter of INDIAN RIDGE and a grand-daughter of grey 1000 Guineas winner NOCTURNAL SPREE, is dam of two winners with her first two foals and her third, INDIAN MOON, is an unraced ROYAL APPLAUSE three-year-old with Toby Coles. This is her fourth foal and she now goes back to ARCHIPENKO.

31st March 2012
15TH INDIVIDUAL GROUP ONE WINNER FOR SELKIRK
CITYSCAPE by SELKIRK became his sire's 15th individual Gr.1 winner when impressively taking the Gr.1 Dubai Duty Free at Meydan today by four and a quarter lengths winning a total of nearly £2 million in prize money. Previously the winner of three Gr.3 races, this was CITYSCAPE's first win at the top level for his owner/breeder HH Prince Khalid Abdulla's Juddmonte Farms and trainer Roger Charlton. This win was thoroughly deserved for the ultra consistent CITYSCAPE whose previous run had been when only narrowly beaten in the Gr.1 Hong Kong Mile at Sha Tin in December. Juddmonte Farms have now bred three Gr.1 winners by SELKIRK - WINCE (winner of the 1,000 Guineas), ANNOUNCE (winner of the 2011 Gr.1 Prix Jean Romanet) and now CITYSCAPE. Many congratulations to all concerned and we thank them for their loyality to Lanwades.

20th March 2012
FIVE FURTHER FOALS
The foal count is up by five, and four of them are bay fillies.
The sole colt is a chesnut son of SELKIRK and the COZZENE mare RYELLA. A half-sister to a Canadian Graded winner and a US Listed winner out of a half-sister to Middle Park Stakes winner AD VALOREM, RYELLA has already bred a decent winner with her first foal and only runner to date, RALLY AGAIN, a son of AWESOME AGAIN who was a stakes winner and classic-placed in Russia last year. RYELLA will stay at home to visit HERNANDO by whom she has a really good yearling colt, which will be offered at the sales under our Staffordstown banner this year.
Also staying at home to be covered after foaling by a Lanwades sire are CARIBANA and MISS PRISM. CARIBANA’s daughter is by ARCHIPENKO and she will now be covered by SELKIRK, sire of her first foal daughter CUBANITA, an impressive winner of a 17 runner maiden last year at two for Ralph Beckett and who holds a 2012 Epsom Oaks entry. This is the fourth filly in as many foals for CARIBANA, a homebred HERNANDO grand-daughter of Yorkshire Oaks winner KEY CHANGE. Fifth-generation Lanwades-bred MISS PRISM's SIR PERCY daughter is her eighth filly foal, and 11th live foal in total. She is dam of five winners including Timeform 117 rated ISLAND LIGHT; she will visit AUSSIE RULES.
French Group 3 winning juvenile SONGERIE has a fourth foal in as many years by a Kentucky-based horse, this time a daughter of the ROBERTO line horse ARCH. SONGERIE’s LANGFUHR two-year-old daughter SOLACE, is in training with John Gosden and she has a yearling colt by BIRDSTONE, which will be sold from Staffordstown this year.
The British Bloodstock Agency owned 2010 December Sales acquisition CHIRKOVA has produced a filly by DANSILI. A daughter of SADLER'S WELLS and a full-sister to German Listed winner and Gr.1 runner-up POSEIDON ADVENTURE, CHIRKOVA is also a grand-daughter of SABIN, winner of 18 races, many at Gr.1 and Gr.2 level, and a million dollar earner.

FRIDAY DOUBLE
As the Cheltenham Festival came to a close for another year Lanwades bred two winners in the evening one at Wolverhampton and one over in Ireland at Dundalk.  First up at Wolverhampton was RASHEED a now four-year-old gelding bred by Miss K Rausing and Mrs S M Rogers who was winning his fourth race of his career when staying on strongly in the two and a half mile handicap to win by seven lengths.  He is trained by John Gosden and now owned by his wife Rachel Hood and this distance certainly seems to suit him as he continues to improve.  His dam, ALEXANDRINE, has bred six winners from seven runners.
Next was a maiden win for CHINA ONE a three-year-old colt by MOTIVATOR ex HOT TO TANGO who was bred by Miss K Rausing and Niarchos Family and sold as a foal.  CHINA ONE was having his first start and he won the Navan Lock & Key Maiden at Dundalk over a mile and a quarter in impressive style and certainly looks one to follow. He is in training with P D Deegan in Ireland.

A NICE WIN FOR A DAUGHTER OF HERNANDO
Three-year-old filly SOHO ROSE won on her second attempt at Saint-Cloud on Saturday over a mile a quarter.  SOHO ROSE is a full sister to Gr.2 winner and Listed winner (at 2) HANAMI, both being by Lanwades sire HERNANDO out of RUSSIAN ROSE.  She is trained in France by Mr H A Pantall and owned like her sister by Mr Guy Heald who is a Director of the British Bloodstock Agency (see www.bba.co.uk) whose mares and young stock are boarded at Lanwades.

9th March 2012
ANOTHER WIN FOR OUR NEW BOY
The new boy at Lanwades, AUSSIE RULES, had another three-year-old winner yesterday this time at Wolverhampton.  YARRA VALLEY,  a filly, having her third run of her career was held up, made some good headway two furlongs from home to take the 7f maiden in what looks to be a decent race.  She is owned and trained by Willie Musson and was bred by AUSSIE RULES’ breeder Denford Stud who are supporting the horse again in 2012 by sending some good mares.

CAVALEIRO REMAINS IN THE DERBY
Following a forfeit stage for this year’s Epsom Derby which takes place on Saturday 2nd June and will mark the first official event of her Majesty The Queen’s long weekend of Diamond Jubilee Celebrations, amongst the remaining entries is CAVALEIRO who is by 2006 Derby victor SIR PERCY and trained like his father by Marcus Tregoning who revealed: “We have obviously got quite a way to go with Cavaleiro before the Derby, but we will run him in a trial and take it from there. He’s had plenty of experience as a two-year-old and won his latest two starts, which was good. He’s going to have to step up considerably on his next start and we are thinking about either the Lingfield Derby Trial, Chester or Sandown.  I also haven’t ruled out the possibility of running him in the Feilden Stakes at Newmarket, which might suit him. Physically, he has done very well over the winter and we are very pleased with him on that score. He’s quite a laid-back horse, who keeps finding a bit, so we are hopeful that he can continue to progress. “It’s very exciting for Sir Percy. He did very well last year and the quality of the mares that he is receiving is getting better. It’s early days for him as a stallion but we have been very pleased for him. We were very lucky to have him and he was a wonderful flag-bearer – hopefully his progeny can continue that success.”

A FURTHER EIGHT MORE ARRIVALS
February has seen a further eight more arrivals at Lanwades, three colts and five fillies. Among the colts we have two by ARCHIPENKO and one by SIR PERCY. Top of the bill arrival at Lanwades has to be a grey colt for 1998 World Champion middle distance filly and dual Gr.1 Champion Stakes scorer ALBORADA by ARCHIPENKO. A colt also for ALIZADORA, a juvenile winning grand-daughter of the great ALRUCCABA, a third foal for her and this time by SIR PERCY. Her first foal is a now two-year-old by WITH APPROVAL named ALZAVOLA and is in training with Sir Mark Prescott. ALIZADORA remains at Lanwades to re-visit SELKIRK with whom she has a yearling colt. The final colt is another by ARCHIPENKO and is a fifth foal for EMINENCIA, an unraced daughter of dual Group 1 winner MY EMMA following on from a filly by the same sire last year which has already been named ARCHDUCHESS.
Now for the fillies - two more fillies for long-time Lanwades friend and client Mr John Pearce’s half sisters MISS CAP FERRAT and MISS PROVENCE. The first is a bay by INVINCIBLE SPIRIT out of MISS CAP FERRAT, a daughter of DARSHAAN and the dam of stakes winner ST JEAN CAP FERRAT. The second is a grey by VERGLAS for MISS PROVENCE a winning HERNANDO full-sister to Stakes winners MISS CORNICHE and MISS RIVIERA GOLF, who both form part of Mr Pearce’s boarding broodmare band of six and who have both already foaled this year; MISS RIVIERA GOLF has a filly by SEA THE STARS and MISS CORNICHE has a filly by PIVOTAL.
The remaining three fillies are all Lanwades-bred; mother and daughter SUMMER NIGHT and SOURIRE produced daughters on consecutive days. The latter, one of her dam’s four stakes winners, has a bay HERNANDO half-sister to last year’s second foal a filly by NAYEF already named STILLA AFTON. Her first foal is a now two-year-old colt in training with Simon Dow by ANABAA which was sold by Staffordstown at the 2011 Tattersalls October Yearling Sales. SOURIRE remains at Lanwades to return to HERNANDO this year. Her dam produced a bay filly by ARCHIPENKO, her eleventh foal in twelve years. Of these the first six are all winners and she has a two-year-old by SMART STRIKE named SAGESSE who is in training with Sir Mark Prescott and yearling filly by OASIS DREAM who has already been named SUNSET SHORE.
Finally DIABLERETTE, a winning three-quarter sister to 2010 Group 1 winner LADY JANE DIGBY and multiple Group and Graded scorer GATEMAN, has a SIR PERCY bay filly fifth foal. She follows a colt by ARCHIPENKO born last year, a now two-year-old filly by VERGLAS named MME SANS GENE and who is in training with Ralph Beckett and a pair of SELKIRK's - ECOSSAISE, a winner this year, and RAINBOW GOLD, a three-year-old colt, both of which have been or are in training with LADY JANE's and GATEMAN's trainer Mark Johnston. ECOSSAISE is still owned by Lanwades and RAINBOW GOLD was purchased by Mark Johnston Racing at the Tattersalls December Yearling Sales in 2010. DIABLERETTE returns to ARCHIPENKO this year.

LANWADES AND STAFFORDSTOWN STUDS TO INCREASE SUPPORT OF CURRAGH
Lanwades and Staffordstown Studs have agreed to extend their support of the Curragh Racecourse by supporting the Gr.3 Lanwades Stud Stakes on Sunday 26th August for fillies and mares aged three-year-old and upwards over nine furlongs, in addition to the Listed Staffordstown Stud Fillies Stakes for two-year-olds, which takes place at the finale of the Curragh season on Sunday 14th October.
Lanwades Stud is home to AUSSIE RULES, HERNANDO and SELKIRK, together with Gr.1 Dewhurst Stakes and Gr.1 Derby winner SIR PERCY and Gr.1 winner ARCHIPENKO, while Staffordstown Stud in County Meath has been responsible for rearing top class performers including ALBORADA, ALBANOVA and LADY JANE DIGBY.
Kirsten Rausing said: “I am delighted to be able to support Irish racing and breeding in this way.  Having lived and worked in Ireland myself, I particularly appreciate the opportunity to have raised our yearlings on the excellent land at Staffordstown in Co. Meath for the last 20 years.”
Evan Arkwright commented: “We are very grateful for the additional support from Kirsten Rausing and all her team at Lanwades and Staffordstown Studs, which will help us continue to boost the quality and competitiveness of our races for fillies and mares.”

FURTHER FOALS
Three further arrivals have brought the 2012 foal tally to 17 so far. RAINBOW QUEST mare SALINIA has a first foal bay colt by CAMACHO. The British Bloodstock Agency-owned mare is a half sister to 2011 French Derby winner RELIABLE MAN, both out of Listed winner ON FAIR STAGE, herself a daughter of triple Oaks winner - Epsom, Curragh, York - FAIR SALINIA. SALINIA will now visit DANSILI.
The other two new foals are bay fillies out of Lanwades mares NINOTCHKA and MARIA DI  SCOZIA. The beautifully-bred NINOTCHKA, already dam of three winning daughters including stakes placed pair NADESZHDA and NATALIYA, has an ARCHIPENKO daughter, a filly linebred to SPECIAL who is great-granddam of her mother and granddam of her sire. NINOTCHKA is returning to ARCHIPENKO - makes sense! The other filly is a second foal for MARIA DI SCOZIA and is from the first crop of the impeccably-bred DANZIG horse MAWATHEEQ. MARIA DI SCOZIA, who also visits ARCHIPENKO, is a granddaughter of Italian Horse of the Year MARIA WALESKA, dam of Champion sprinter POLISH PATRIOT (by DANZIG) and granddam of Lanwades' 2010 Gr.1 winning homebred LADY JANE DIGBY (by DANZIG's grandson, OASIS DREAM) as well as multiple Gr.3 winner GATEMAN (by another grandson of DANZIG, OWINGTON).

SECOND SEVEN
The first six days of February brought seven further foals - three in one day, two bred by long-time Lanwades friend and client Mr John Pearce.
Listed winning full-sisters MISS CORNICHE and MISS RIVIERA GOLF, both by Lanwades' sire HERNANDO foaled fillies within three days of each other for Mr Pearce. The former has a chesnut by PIVOTAL, a half-sister to three winners (three of the mare's first four produce) including 2011 Ebor Handicap winner MOYENNE CORNICHE himself by SELKIRK. She visits GALILEO, sire of her as yet unraced 2009 colt ITALIAN RIVIERA. Her elder sister, winner of a Listed mile race at Maisons-Laffitte and dam already of six winners, has a bay by 2010 World Champion SEA THE STARS; she too is headed to Ireland, returning to MONTJEU, sire of her 2011 two-year-old winning son GASSIN GOLF.
Among the five Lanwades-owned arrivals are two second crop sons and one daughter of ARCHIPENKO.  The fillies are out of HERMANITA and WEATHER REPORT. HERMANITA's is her first daughter after three straight colts. A winning daughter by HERNANDO out of the stakes winning SECRETARIAT mare SUBJECTIVE, she now visits SIR PERCY, sire of her third colt, who realised 34,000 guineas at last year's Tattersalls December Foal Sale. WEATHER REPORT (an unraced daughter of dual Oaks winner RAMRUMA) for whom this was a third foal in as many years after a filly by SELKIRK and a colt by HERNANDO, once again will remain at Lanwades, revisiting ARCHIPENKO. The third foal by that sire born this week is a bay son of ALRUCCABA's great-grandaughter ALL A DREAM, who will also remain at the farm, to be covered by ALRUCCABA's grandson, new horse AUSSIE RULES.  Incidentally ALL A DREAM's now two-year-old daughter ALL BLACK ROSE (by Lanwades' sire VITA ROSA) is in training with John Gosden in Newmarket.
The remaining two mares to produce early February foals will both also stay put to be covered by a Lanwades sire. ALTITUDE, a winning daughter of GREEN DESERT and Broodmare of the Year ALOUETTE, will visit SELKIRK after producing a bay/grey filly by GALILEO, this follows a 2010 grey filly by the same sire who made €300,000 when sold by Staffordstown last year and is now in training with Sir Henry Cecil for Sir Robert Ogden.
And SADLER'S WELLS' daughter KESARA will go to ARCHIPENKO, having foaled a bay colt by SELKIRK which is a close relative to that horse's dual Group 1 winning Italian Champion son ALTIERI, a half-brother to KESARA's dam KALDOUNYA.

END OF JANUARY RUSH
The first two foals of the season arrived on 23rd January, and by month's end the tally was seven, three of them on the 31st.
The initial two arrivals were both to boarding mares. Poonawalla Stud Farm's TOUCH MY SOUL has a bay colt by STREET CRY. This is a second foal for the German Gr.3 winner after her 2011 filly by KITTEN'S JOY.
Chris and Lesley Mills' MIDNIGHT FANTASY produced a filly (her first foal) by ACCLAMATION on the same night. A three-time winner by OASIS DREAM, MIDNIGHT FANTASY is half-sister to the Mills' Group winning sprinter MISS ANABAA; she now visits ACCLAMATION’s son EQUIANO. Before the month was out MISS ANABAA had produced her own ACCLAMATION foal, a bay colt who is his dam's sixth living foal. Last year MISS ANABAA bred three-year-old winner EMKANAAT and sold her RAVEN'S PASS filly foal for 52,000 guineas. She returns to ACCLAMATION.
The first Lanwades-bred foal was also the first produce of Gr.1 winner, LADY JANE DIGBY. A seven-time winner whose career peaked with a German Gr.1 success in 2010, LADY JANE DIGBY had a chesnut colt by leading sire DUBAWI and now visits an even more successful current stallion in GALILEO.
The DUBAWI colt's arrival was followed by a first foal for a daughter of GALILEO in ALMIRANTA, herself the first foal of stakes winner ALVARITA, the product of two champions in SELKIRK and ALBORADA. ALMIRANTA had a bay filly by INVINCIBLE SPIRIT and stays at Lanwades to be covered by SIR PERCY, sire of the mare's very promising now three-year-old half-sister ALLA SPERANZA (in training with J S Bolger in Ireland - this filly was a stakes-placed winner in 2 starts at 2 in Ireland).
Then ALMIRANTA’s close relative ALTA MODA, an unraced daughter of SADLER'S WELLS and ALBORADA, produced a bay colt by ARCHIPENKO, her third foal and third colt. ALTA MODA joins LADY JANE DIGBY in travelling to Ireland to visit a big name horse, in her case World Champion SEA THE STARS.
The last foal of January, and fourth of the Lanwades-bred arrivals, was a bay filly by our new sire for 2012 AUSSIE RULES out of Brazilian Gr.3 winner THUNDER QUEEN. The dam already of two winners, THUNDER QUEEN is another staying at Lanwades, in her case to visit ARCHIPENKO.

GREAT SALES RESULTS FOR SIR PERCY IN NEW ZEALAND
Lanwades stallion SIR PERCY had some great sales results at this week’s New Zealand’s Karaka Select Yearling Sales to end up the Leading First Season Sire there - with eight yearlings sold for an average of NZ$49,625 with top prices of NZ$120,000 for a colt and NZ$82,500 for a filly.  The Karaka Select Yearling Sales is a three day sale which ran from 1st February through to 3rd February.
The week before New Zealand Karaka hosted its Premier Yearling Sale where Queensland agent John Foote paid the top price of the week for a SIR PERCY yearling when a bay colt out of STAR PARADE was knocked down to him for NZ$150,000.  Incidentally this colt was consigned by Rich Hill Stud where SIR PERCY has stood for the last three Southern Hemisphere seasons.  Also at this sale a SIR PERCY filly was sold for NZ130,000 from Curraghmore Stud.
Of course back in Europe in 2011 SIR PERCY ended the year as the UK’s Leading Second Crop Sales Sire with his yearlings selling at the major UK and Irish Yearlings Sales averaging 43,679gns and with a top price of 260,000 gns for a colt out of Mr and Mrs Pakenham’s mare BOMBAZINE.
SIR PERCY made an excellent start when his first crop European yearlings sold in 2010 made 80,000gns, 78,000gns, 72,000gns, etc, and averaged four times his 2008 nomination fee.

THREE RUNNERS, THREE WINNERS IN 2012
Lanwades have had a great start to 2012 with three runners in the green and white colours and three winners.  First winner of the year came on 2nd January when NORTHERN CONQUEST, a three-year-old gelding by ALADO, won at Kenilworth and followed up with another win on 28th January.  His latest and fourth win came on one of biggest race days in South Africa, the J & B Met Day!  It was a strong 1600 metre handicap and he will now be campaigned at a higher level.  NORTHERN CONQUEST was purchased by Allan Bloodlines from his breeder Klawervlei Stud and managed for Miss Rausing within the support programme for her stallion ALADO.  The second winner of the year is ECOSSIASE (a four-year-old filly by SELKIRK) who won her maiden over a mile at Southwell on 10th January.  ECOSSAISE is being sold at the Tattersalls February Sale on Thursday, 2nd February (please see below).   The latest winner is NEZHENKA (a five year old mare by WITH APPROVAL) who won her second race of her career, a decent handicap at Wolverhampton by two and a quarter lengths on 27th January.

OPPORTUNITY TO PURCHASE WINNING SELKIRK FILLY WITH GR.1 CONNECTIONS
The winning four-year-old filly ECOSSAISE (by Selkirk - Diablerette, by Green Desert - Scandalette, by Niniski - Maria Waleska) is being sold by Lanwades at Tattersalls February Sales, Newmarket, on 2nd February (lot number 200) - click here to view catalogue page.

The filly whose winning run was over 1 mile (1600m) on 10th January at Southwell is sold IN TRAINING, with a Breeding Certificate, from Mark Johnston's Kingsley House Stables where she can also be inspected by appointment prior to the Sales.

Her sire, SELKIRK, was Champion Miler of Europe at both 3 and 4 years. He is Internationally recognized as one of the Leading Sires of the last twenty years, being to date the sire of fourteen individual Group One winners; the winners of over 1475 races and very nearly £30 million.

SELKIRK is now also emerging as a very important broodmare sire. His daughters have to date produced 14 Group winners incl. MOUNT NELSON (Gr.1), QUIFF (Gr.1), SIMPLY PERFECT (Gr.1), TERMAGANT (Gr.1), etc.

ECOSSAISE is the first produce of her dam, DIABLERETTE, herself a winner at two years. The dam also has a now three-year-old colt (RAINBOW GOLD, by Selkirk) in training with Mark Johnston and a two-year-old filly, MME SANS GENE (by Verglas), retained by Lanwades and in training with Ralph Beckett. There is also a 2011 colt by ARCHIPENKO and DIABLERETTE is due to foal to Champion two-year-old and Derby winner SIR PERCY prior to returning to ARCHIPENKO this year.

Lanwades currently has SEVEN mares from ECOSSAISE's immediate family in their broodmare band, including Group 1 winner LADY JANE DIGBY who is due to DUBAWI and scheduled to visit GALILEO this year.

Three two-year-old fillies currently in training complete the family group:
DAME NELLIE MELBA (Aussie Rules - Scandalette), with Mark Johnston; MARIELLA (Piccolo - Viva Maria), with Peter Chapple-Hyam, and the above-mentioned MME SANS GENE (Verglas - Diablerette) with Ralph Beckett.

This family stems from the great Champion racemare and Horse-of-the-Year in Italy, MARIA WALESKA (dual Gr.1 winner, dual Classic winner), herself dam of the European Champion Sprinter, POLISH PATRIOT.
ECOSSAISE will provide her eventual purchaser with an exceptional opportunity to breed from a daughter of a most important broodmare sire, from a very "live" family with plenty of potential for further Black Type additions.

Interestingly, both SELKIRK daughters and MARIA WALESKA, her daughters and granddaughters, have repeatedly shown excellent results when mated with DANZIG and his descendants.
Also selling at Tattersalls February Sale is chesnut colt by SIR PERCY ex ROSA DE MI CORAZON – lot number 107 – please click here for catalogue page and further details.
